Poll question: What should my wife and I name our son? |
|
OK, we've narrowed it down to a few names, and I thought it would be fun to get the opinion of as many of you as possible. Be honest! My sons future name could be in your hands. The names all have a Hispanic tilt because, well, my wife is from Spain and that's where he will probably grow up. Thanks in advance.

11. That's a very good point, and it's becoming a problem... |

...because my last name is Knapper, which is German. No real way to win on this one.

33. I like three or more syllables when combined with |
|
your two syllable last name. Rolls off the tongue a bit more elegantly.
Plus, you should be thinking about nicknames with all of them.

28. I know a guy named Sebastian, and we all call him Sea Bass |
|
(personally, I think Disney missed out on an opportunity in Little Mermaid by making Sebastian a crab instead of a Sea Bass )
Anyway, to answer the original question, I like Alejandro. A nice strong, solid name, yet a bit sexy too...

All depends on how the name is pronounced I guess.

I like all of the potential names this poster is suggesting. Alejandro is my favorite from the list.
(btw, my friend "Sea Bass" is a wonderful, kind, and yet, gutsy guy...many, including me, love him dearly).

Daniel is good. Sergio is almost good. Sebastian, not good. Roberto - that's probably the best bet, if you need something that sound Spanish but isn't icky and will always be pronounced correctly by people.

17. Whoops - I misread the "grow up in Spain" thing |
|
So of course, there's no chance that his name will be mispronounced if you go with a Spanish one. :-)
Still, Alejandro is kind of an ugly name, IMO.
Name him after your wife's father or grandfather. And being Spanish, he should have at least two middle names.

21. We thought about that... |
|
...and for the record, I'm aggressively indifferent about Alejandro. But we only have very, very traditional Spanish names on her side of the family. We've both decided the name should be something unique.

The only one I have some hesitation about is Sebastian. Sebastian is a common name for a cat -- not sure why but it is. In fact, I have a cat named Sebastian and I love him dearly. I would be afraid that you could have a neighbor who had a cat with the same name as your son. Not sure I'd like that.
