Why is my dog drinking water nonstop?
I recently brought home a new puppy and my 2 year old dog is drinking like a fish. Is it a territorial thing? Drinking more water so she can mark more territory? Is it just jealousy? I've had to pick up the water dishes because she really will not stop, it's very excessive and of course translates into going outside every hour which is unbelievably annoying. The problem is, now the puppy and the cat don't have water available when they want it. I've searched the web and found nothing. Any ideas?

Oh, she's also on phenobarbital, but she's been on it for months and the problem just started the day I brought the pup home.

1. Territorial. My middle dog Joey does this when he's on sleep-overs
at his friend Jack's house.

He drinks nary a drop when he's home with his regular pack.

4. She's been checked already.
As part of her epiliepsy treatment.

3. call your vet

I'm guessing it's a stress/nervous reaction to the new puppy and a combination of all the things you mentioned.

Your vet may be able help with some medication to calm the dog until she's ok with the new pup.

8. My vet has mentioned both
Problem is, the drugs she already takes for epilepsy mimic the symptoms of these two other diseases. It seems like she has every disease in the book and I know she doesn't. It's all doing a number on my stress levels.

6. Just nerves
Gotta' do what ya gotta' do 'til they all get settled.

Put water down for all to drink from time to time( a pain, but...).

Pick it up so she stops drinking.
Hopefully, she will eventually chill out.

9. Check.. That's exactly what I'm doing.
She still keeps checking the three former water locations in the house over and over and over..

7. I had a dog do that after it's kidneys went out
It was accompanied by an overall lack of energy and frequent vomiting, however.
