I'm giving a lecture in a few weeks. |
|
The topic: "The History of Progressives in America." My first-ever public speech! :D I've put out fliers around town. Here is the link to a description & directions: http://www.brainshrub.com/facts/fact1teaser.htm What do you think? Should I add anything?

My lower back went out. It bumms me out b/c I was planning to go to DC for the protests tomorrow.
I've been taking the time to research the lecture.

3. Congratulations! Here's my tip for you: |
|
If you're unaccustomed to speaking in public (you may be a big ham, for all I know, and not need this advice!), you may find yourself rushing through your speech too quickly.
When I began presenting papers at academic conferences many years ago, here's how I helped myself out of that pitfall--while practicing the presentation, I made a note of where pauses should go (to help me keep my pace, keep things from being rushed, and keep me from forgetting to breathe) by putting a highlighter dot where the pauses should be. It's not necessarily just between sentences, either--could be between long/complex phrases. Once you get comfortable giving presentations, you'll find yourself pausing without having to think about it. But those highlighter dots certainly kept me from racing through my first few!
Good luck, but more important, enjoy yourself!
