It's official Leonardo DiCaprio is the new Barbara Streisand/Jane Fonda
PARIS (AFP) - France honored Hollywood director Martin Scorsese of "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" fame with its top distinction, the Legion of Honour, while superstar Leonardo DiCaprio received a leading French arts award.

The press is already on board with this "Batman bad guy's lair" angled shot.

Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 04:56 PM by smbolisnch

39. I had always seen it mean Man Seeking Man
Until I came to DU. The first time I saw it used here, I had to sit and think for 5 minutes just what they could be referring to in the context it was being used. :D

4. you know why?
The Freepers think * is a man of humble origins & $300,000 is a huge stretch for a man of as little means as him.

8. I have a solution...
Whenever the Freeps start whining about the Hollywood elite, I remind them about those multimillionaire RW talk show hosts. That seems to shut them up, at least temporarily.

18. I don't even know why I had it on. I must be a masochist.
As soon as I hear his voice, it's like I can literally feel my BP rising. For some reason I kept it on. He was actually having a discussion with some wacko that claimed Jesus made the tsunami happen because of the people's wickedness. It was unreal.

24. Please don't hold your breath. We need you
For some reason, My freeped bro brought up his heroes, 'America's Food and/or Pill Detector' and Hannity, whose book he has. I don't know why-We have an agreement-I have certainly never brought up Chomskey, West, Zinn or a host of other WELL-EDUCATED lefties that would put his gallery of horrors to shame-but hey-there ya go.
He, of course was telling me if I hadn't listened to Hannity, I was in no position to put him down. Really? Hey fella! "I don't need to take a bite out of a turd sammich to know it tastes like shit."
We shut it down with our long standing "Agree to Disagree" pact.

15. Right wingers rail against the secular Jewish --
-- decadents out in Hollywood, but their kids line up at the malls to see the product.

If the press had any balls, this would be a nearly universal retort to the criticism of Barbara Streisand and Leo and Jane etc.

Bad actors like Reagan can be presidents but Leo can't send relief money to tsumani victims?

Makes no sense.

19. Not true, IMHO.
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 06:01 PM by notmyprez
I saw him in a couple of movies when he was still a teenager and he was incredibly good in both, one playing against DeNiro. Back then, you'd hear critics lauding this extremely talented young actor. Then, unfortunately, he starred in "Titanic," and that was all she wrote--reputation destroyed.

Edited to add: And Scorcese wouldn't be casting him if he wasn't good. :-)

it became fashionable to diss him after "titanic". "basketball diaries" was ok with him as jim carrol and he wasnt so bad playing the teen french poet rimbauld in that movie "total eclipse" either.

I'm not sure if I saw the whole thing but I was amused thinking about how the preteen girls who loved Leo would have reacted to a scene with him in bed with another man. :D

34. Now that you mention it, I think that's where I saw the movie.
But on my new cable system, IFC is in a more expensive package so I don't get it. :-(

I don't know how close to reality that movie was (or wasn't), but Paul Verlaine appeared to be a real asshole, and that bummed me out because one of my favorite poems was written by Paul Verlaine.

29. I admit i cant take him seriously since titanic
but I didnt mind him in some of his earlier roles where he played a part that suited his look(ie mentally challenged little brother in gilbert grape or junkie boy in basketball diaries) he doesnt come across as a strapping leading man very well.
