2. Orval is a very, very Southern sort of name.
So Southern that even Southerners don't really use it anymore.

5. Had to go with Archibald because...
there's a Yell County named in his honor and a town named Yellville. And it's in Marion County-go figure.

Huckabee is also funny, but only if you don't live in Arkansas--that idiot has really screwed up the state.

8. I grew up a few miles from Yellville
I voted for Faubus. For what its worth, there used to be a law in Arkansas against having a city with the same name as the county it is in. This is why Benton, AR is in Saline County not Benton County, Marion is in Crittenden County not Marion, Conway is in Faulker instead of Conway County, Yellville is in Marion County not Yell, Searcy is in White County not Searcy, Clarksville is in Johnson County not Clark, Booneville is in Logan County instead of Boone, Hot Springs is in Garland County, and I'm sure there are others. That is just all I can think of right now.

7. I seem to remember
that Orval was a pretty decent governor. Huckabee on the other hand should find another double wide in which to live and should never have left his Baptist pulpit.

9. I met Orville after his political career was over
seemed like a nice fellow. He was working at the FNB of Huntsville at the time.

Anyone would make a better governor than Shitbag Huckabee. Two more looong years and hopefully the people of Ar. will elect someone that has some sense.

10. Kind of sad, really. Faubus wound up working in a bank.
He made a couple of attempts at a political comeback - including a run against Clinton for the Dem gubernatorial nomination in 1986 - but he never again regained political office.

11. Was that in 86...???
I remmeber seeing Bill in Huntsville in 86. He was in the same car in a parade with the notorious Madison Co. sheriff Ralph Baker.
Don't remember if Orville was still living in Huntsville then.I Think he was living in Conway at the time.
I do remember Orville running on a third party ticket for president in 76.

12. Faubus was angry at Clinton for something. I can't recall what.
So he decided to run against Bill. He didn't have a chance; he was about 75 at the time and his base had fallen apart years before. I think he got something like 36% of the primary vote. Clinton won, of course.

I think Faubus tried to win the gubernatorial nom three times after he left office in '67. He won the primary in '70, but was beaten by Bumpers in the runoff. He ran in '86... and I think he might have made a run in '74, though I could be wrong.

13. Bill was always pissing off the old establishment,
that's why I liked him a governor. I wish he would move back and run in 06. I haven't had a decent raise since Bill went to Washington. I miss him dearly. He cared about state employees even if it wasn't the politically correct thing for him to do.
