If you've got the right software, you can make a vocals-only mix |
|
of about 10 of the songs on the Beatles album Rubber Soul, and either a backing track-only or vocals-only mix of about half the songs on Revolver.
Whaddya think about that?

3. Any software that can either A. produce a "Karaoke" mix |
|
or B. isolate the right or left channel.
Most virtual studio progs can do it. My little Magix program - which cost about $39 - does it with no problem at all.
The results are pretty impressive. You get some bleed-in from instruments and vocals, but that's to be expected.
I produced vocals-only mixes of "You Won't See Me," "In My Life," "If I Needed Someone," "Girl," and a few others off of Rubber Soul.
On Revolver, I managed to get vocals-only versions of "Eleanor Rigby," "Here, There and Everywhere," and "Yellow Submarine."
From the same album, I got backing track-only versions of "Taxman," "Yellow Submarine," "She Said She Said," "Good Day Sunshine," "For No One," and "Got To Get You Into My Life."
Also got an instrumental version of "We Can Work It Out" (minus harmonium), and a vocals-only version of "Paperback Writer."
Ehh - I'm rattling on. But it's your fault; you asked. :D

5. I doubt you can do it. |
|
Sixties songs are easier to do just because of the way they're mixed - vocals often aren't dead center, but rather off to the side. So they're easier to isolate.

6. It's the left/right rejection OOPS thing. |
|
I'm not claiming to have done anything new. Just something that most people with less time on their hands don't do. :D
