I was in a hit and run tonight
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 11:37 PM by rene moon
The guy slammed into the car behind me, who slammed into my car's rear really hard earlier tonight. The hit-and-runner then sped off, with his Honda Accord front-end smashed. So no way to get his license and insurance.

Luckily, no major damage to me, my Mom or my car. Or to the two young guys in the car behind us.

But I am really sore---my backend and neck hurt.

What should I do for it?

Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 11:40 PM by rene moon
It's already been a few hours---I'm sure there is nothing they can do, I didnt even get a license plate.

I probably should have called them right then and like a dazed fool, I didnt.

If it's really sore you should see a doctor. But for now, try ice & heat, that usually helps a lot.

5. Go to the doctor tomorrow!!!
In the meantime, ICE it. 20 minutes out of each hour you're awake. Do this for 2 days. Then do the same with heat.

Take ibuprofen - 800 milligrams (4 tabs of 200 mg will do). It helps cut down on the swelling.

I was in an accident 15 months ago, and that is what I had to do. Trust me, you will quite possibly feel worse tomorrow morning, after your muscles have had time to fully tense up.

Please see a doctor. You may need physical therapy, and the doc can write you a script for prescription (800 mg) Motrin & possibly a muscle relaxer, depending on how bad it is.

I do hope you feel better soon. I don't wish that kind of pain on anyone. I'm glad it wasn't worse, but if you're in pain now, you may be sore for a while.

PM me if you have any questions, and feel better!

6. You should be able to collect on your "Uninsured motorist"...
policy.

But it still sucks.

7. 17 years ago I was in an accident where I was rear-ended
and in turn hit the car in front of me. My insurance paid for the car I hit, even though I did not cause the accident. It was a no fault claim.

I don't know if this is still how it is done. If so, the person who hit you would have to file on their insurance for your injury.

As for the pain your having, go to a doctor and have it looked at as soon as possible. It takes very little to rupture a disk which can be a serious injury. Please don't just assume it's soft tissue damage and will go away in a few days.

9. You have to call the cops Rene and file a report
Otherwise, your insurance company will not pay any claim you make. The accident has to be reported to the police.

They'll ask you for the date and time, plus any description of the car and driver you can give. Since hit and run is a crime, you are technically required to let the police know about this, particularly if you're involving your insurance company.
