Poll question: Do you pray?
This is a non-denominational question. I don't care if you subscribe to a mono-theism or not. I don't care who you pray to. I just want to know if you pray.

That was before the election was flipped in their favor, I believe.

If there was any way to prove it, I think he'd be out there. But there isn't, apparently. Hurts my heart. But he's still my guy.

Thanks luv.

Without getting into a long theological argument about whether there is a God or not, I believe there's some divine being behind all this. Whether you call him God, Allah, Yahweh, or Hank. But I do think that prayer is more meditation than anything else. The answers to our questions are inside of us. It is up to us to find them. Prayer helps some people do that.

16. I agree. If we are part of God (which I think we are), then simply
meditating to the point of quieting the conscious mind will allow the higher (God) mind to connect.

19. You know what.
I was watching this thing on PBS about string theory, and how everything in the universe everything is made up of these strings-they just vibrate differently to create different particles. So, I had a thought that if everything is essentially the same, then if there is a divine 'whatever' it must be a part of us, and we must be a part of it...made of the same stuff, dig?

detaches from your physical body, and you can explore the universe, contact departed loved-ones, anything. The trick is waking up in your dream. Anyone can do it.

59. That's why I think the "supplication" bit is the wrong approach, just as
is the "making a speech" approach to prayer. Real prayer seems to me nothing more than quieting the ego mind to the point where I am simply with God. And, as Ingersoll says, use the hands to reach out to others.

Life can be a prayer of love, at all times, in all places. That is in all threads, and all posts.

...Deep inside there's a vision that time is nothing but space and between every minute and mile there within it somehow there's a beautiful place. And, it's all such a delicate balance 'cause it takes just as much as it gives, but to live it is real and to love it is to feel that you're a part of what everything is...

Even then I was really only looking for truth. Realizing that I didn't have to believe in anything w/o a solid foundation of evidence, brought me alot of peace.

74. No. I can't believe in a superghost who eavesdrops on us 24/7.
I think that prayer is nothing more than a form of meditation. Praying for stuff is a waste of time. Praying for peace of mind will reinforce itself, but could just as easily be "Ommm" as "Our Father".

I don't bother with either.

76. You know, one thing about prayer (as meditation) is that it never gets to
be a habit. You have to make yourself do it, take the time to get still and get quiet and PRACTICE... that's what the Buddhist masters call it, right? They call it their practice. I hear several people posting here who are essentially saying that it's a waste of time, or there's no logic behind it, or whatever. But I believe that if I set aside a time every day to simply practice being quiet ("Be still, and know that I am God"), then the infinite energy and power of the Universe will be more available to me. If we still think prayer is asking for something, we're on the wrong track.

It's like playing music. When you practice at home, you go over the scales and the tunes and the licks and you do it again and again and analyze it, and do the whole left-brained thing on it. But when it's time to play on the stage, you forget all of that and just CONNECT, and the music flows through you. I think that's what prayer is. Your conscious brain knows what you want, but when you pray, you just connect, and let the enegy flow through you, and how can you not be right?

77. Nope, no prayer here.
Except to Superman when I really need help. But that's it.

78. Everyday I try to...
give thanks, ask for forgivenes and guidance and protection and well being over my loved ones and friends and the good people of the world. Before i got sleep i ask that i fall asleep soon and wake up at a decent time and have productive days. It's always good and probably the most important yet least prioritized prayer just to praise the lord for all he is and has done as some of you have said.

84. I read a great philosophy book that the God most people pray to,
the god of religions is a construct between people and the Real God of the universe. This one was created because people can't face the real force that animates all things. That's the God I pray to.

86. Atheist here, but I reverse-pray.
I never pray for good things to happen, but I find myself shaking my fist, Basil Fawly-style, at God when bad things happen.

I'm a firm believer in 'separation of Church and blog.'

93. It depends on how much trouble I'm in
:scared:

;)

I don't anymore, although sometimes I slip...there was an interesting patch when I was pretty much agnostic (out of laziness more than anything) on my way to full blown athiesm I'd find myself sorta praying then I'd be like "Who the hell am I talking to??" :eyes:
