I like this song called "Rooftop" by Canadian singer Melissa McClelland. Now my secret is out. Share yours.

3. "Miracles" by the "cocaine & champagne" era Jefferson Starship
...actually a very cool tune that captures the breezy, tacky excess of the 70's perhaps even more perfectly than Steeley Dan. What a cool record...

49. Agree on Miracles.
Can't seem to stop listening to it. Essentially it's about some hippy having sex with his old lady, what with talk about "vibes" and "your thighs." I should be totally repelled but I can't seem to get it out of my head.

Must be the harmonies.

5. A lot of the early '70s hits by the Carpenters.
"Close To You," "We've Only Just Begun," "For All We Know," "Rainy Days & Mondays," "Superstar," "Hurting Each Other," "It's Going To Take Some Time," "Goodbye To Love," "Sing," "Yesterday Once More," "Top of the World," "I Won't Last A Day Without You," "Only Yesterday," "Solitaire"....

I normally hate that kind of MOR stuff, but there's something about Karen's voice that really grabs me!

Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 05:06 AM by LDS Jock
I was reading up on some mental health site, which then lead to a support site for those who have lost relatives to suicide. At the end of the song Sad Eyes, there is a lady's voice in the background. Great voice, very strong, and if you listen to the song for it, you can't miss it. That lady took her own life shortly after the song. Now every time I hear it I think of that. :(

10CC - I'm not in love

I'm not in love, so don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made
I'm not in love, no, no, it's because...
I like to see you, but then again
That doesn't mean you mean that much to me
So if I call you, don't make a fuss
Don't tell your friends about the two of us
I'm not in love, no, no, it's because...
Be quiet, big boys don't cry, big boys don't cry
Big boys don't cry, big boys don't cry
I keep your picture upon the wall
It hides a nasty stain that's lying there
So don't you ask me to give it back
I know you know it doesn't mean that much to me
I'm not in love, no, no, it's because...
Ooh you'll wait a long time for me,
Ooh you'll wait a long time
Ooh you'll wait a long time for me
Oooooh you'll wait a long time
I'm not in love, so don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made
Ooh I'm not in love, I'm not in love

Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 12:28 AM by truthbetold
Meet me in outerspace
We could spend the night, watch the earth come up
I’ve grown tired of that place, won't you come with me
We could start again

How do you do it, make me feel like I do
How do you do it, it’s better than I ever knew

Meet me in outerspace
I will hold you close, if you're afraid of heights
I need you to see this place, it might be the only way
That I can show you how, it feels to be inside of you

How do you it, make me feel like I do
How do you do it, it’s better than I ever knew
How do you do it, make me feel like I do
Do oh oh oh oh oh

You are stellar
You are stellar

How do you it, make me feel like I do
How do you do it, it’s better than I ever knew
How do you do it, make me feel like I do
How do you do it, make me feel like I do, yeah

30. Goodbye Girl by David Gates
ALL YOUR LIFE YOU'VE WAITED FOR LOVE TO COME AND STAY
AND NOW THAT I HAVE FOUND YOU
YOU MUST NOT SLIP AWAY
I KNOW IT'S HARD BELIEVING THE WORDS YOU'VE HEARD BEFORE
BUT DARLING ,YOU MUST TRUST THEM JUST ONCE MORE

CAUSE BABY GOOD-BYE DOESN'T MEAN FOREVER
LET ME TELL YOU GOOD-BYE DOESN'T MEAN
WE'LL NEVER BE TOGETHER AGAIN

IF YOU WAKE UP AND I'M NOT THERE
I WON'T BELONG AWAY
CAUSE THE THINGS YOU DO MY GOOD-BYE GIRL
WILL BRING ME BACK TO YOU

I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN TAKEN AFRAID TO HURT AGAIN
YOU FIGHT THE LOVE YOU FEEL FOR ME
INSTEAD OF GIVING ME
BUT I CAN WAIT FOREVER FOR HELPING YOU TO SEE
THAT I WAS MEANT FOR YOU AND YOU FOR ME

SO REMEMBER GOOD-BYE DOESN'T MEAN FOREVER
LET ME TELL YOU GOOD-BYE DOESN'T MEAN
WE'LL NEVER BE TOGETHER AGAIN

THOUGH WE MAY BE SO FAR APART
YOU STILL WILL HAVE MY HEART
SO FORGET YOUR PAST MY GOOD-BYE GIRL
NOW YOU'RE HOME AT LAST

all their stuff is fab...

I really liked their last 2 albums, especially "Walking Wounded." "Temperamental" was way underrated ;)

Ben Watt went on to Lazy Dog (!!!) and is Buzzin' Fly now.

I liked Tracey Thorn's Massive Attack collaborations too.

"Driving" is another slightly cheesy yet ultimately great track (Masters at Work Racing Mix).

61. When I Need You - Leo Sayer
When this song comes on the radio, I love to crank up the sound and sing harmony along with Leo. (The harmony is in thirds, so it's pretty easy).

64. Just Once (Quincy Jones)
Not a cheesy song, but reminds me of too much time spent chasing a REALLY cheesy guy in college

Also, the Carpenters always get to me. And pretty much anything, no matter how bad, that was popular in 1976, when I was 16 - the age of prime emotional cheesiness.

69. I Just Wanna Stop by Gino Vanelli
"When I think about those nights in montreal
I get the sweetest thoughts of you and me
Memories of love above the city lights
Ooh, I tried so hard to take it
But oh lord my heart won’t make it

I just wanna stop
And tell you what I feel about you babe
I just wanna stop
I never wanna live without you babe
I just gotta stop
For your love

When I think about the way the world must turn
I get the saddest thoughts for you and me
Memories of life and times go on and on
Ooh, I’ve tried hard to forget it
But of lord my mind won’t let it

I just wanna stop
And tell you what I feel about you babe
I just wanna stop
The world ain’t right without you babe
I just wanna stop
For your love

Ooo, I’ve tried so hard to take it
But oh lord my heart won’t make it

I just wanna stop
And tell you what I feel about you babe
I just wanna stop
The world ain’t right without you babe
I just wanna stop
For your love"

83. Plenty
"All By Myself" by Eric Carmen
"Superstar" by the Carpenters
"Easy to be Hard" by Three Dog Night
"Which Way You Goin', Billy?" by the Poppy Family
"It Don't Matter to Me" by Bread (pretty much everything by Bread for that matter)
"Colour My World" by Chicago (pretty much everything by seventies Chicago, for that matter)
"Babe" by Styx
"Miracles" by Jefferson Starship (though I love "Runaway" even more)
"Cherish" by the Association (pretty much everything by them as well)

Well, that's probably enough. The number of songs I like that a lot of folks would call "guilty pleasures" number in the thousands...

Cheesy, but I don't have a problem admitting it. The guitar solo actually kind of rocks too...a little.
