freeper quotes on tsunami aid |
|
I saw a link to this thread on FR and went, even though I knew better. I'll save you the trouble. I just wanted to share a few quotes. It makes my head nearly explode to think these are from real people with voting rights.
someone posts "When you failed to do it for the least of these here brethren of mine..you failed to do it for me" and gets this back..
"You are confusing two concepts. According to Christ, we are all required to be charitable. That, however has nothing to do with the government unjustly taking a disproportionate amount of our wages, such that it's difficult to care for our families, so it can in turn give that money away"
and this..
"Jesus Christ would not aprove of giving money to people to build houses again in an area that is.... lets face it...prone to this activity."
other comments
"The United States government, however, should not give any money to help the tsunami victims. Why? Because the money is not the government's to give."
"My wife's mother was wanting to donate $500 till we showed her that the government was committed to at least $35 million. She said fine and will now take her $500 to Vietnam and hand out rice and clothing as she does each year." (yeah, right)
"This aid money represents all of America. Like a mutual fund, we should expect that money to go where it will best perform. We already have a civilian and military presence in the area and we should volunteer their service and build a coalition of other nations that can do the same. Deduct from what we were going to give to the UN and use that money for our coalition." (I thought the military was fighting unprovoked wars?)
"JC hated publicans...tax collectors. And the tax collectors are running this country into the ground with this supposed idea of charity...which has stolen trillions from hard working Americans in the name of.....WE MUST DO IT.....IT IS ONLY RIGHT."
and other such crap. I've seen it posted on DU before, but it bears repeating... their site is shitty. The lay out is impossible to follow the flow of any thread between posters to see what kind of dialogue is going on.

Amazing to me how economically conservative many Christians are, I can understand relative social conservativeness but I don't understand laissez faire christians like fundies.

That's the really neat thing about F.R., you don't have to bother reading the Bible, studying the Church Fathers, or contemplating hard the Canons of the Oecumenical Councils, just ask a FReeper.
S. Augustine, S. Thomas Aquinas, S. Alphonsus Liguiri et al. have nothing on those guys.

although I don't have the quotes in front of me, from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, one of the many "heavenly delights" accorded to the blessed was the ability to look down from on high and actually watch the poor sinners in hell being tormented. Imagine the worst tortures any human could conceive of, then imagine all the "saved" in heaven watching it like a goddamn football game.
Okay, I just pissed myself off.
Fucking people.

Listen to the rhetoric from the Dominionists. They're clearly not looking forward to eternal life in heaven-they're getting off on the idea of being able to watch the rest of humanity tortured forever. They practically masturbate at the idea. Christ would be proud.

24. Jesus hated tax collectors . . . . hmmmm, I wonder what the heck he |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 06:22 AM by ET Awful
was talking about when he told his disciple to pay their taxes and render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasars and render unto God that which is Gods? He must have been talking about something besides taxes. . . no, he said that after someone complained about paying taxes. Jesus did show contempt for money changers in the temple, but they weren't tax collectors, they weren't government agents of any kind, they were profiteers somewhat like the entities that freepers defend every day.
He wouldn't approve of giving money to areas that are "prone" to that activity? SO when was the last tsunami that killed over 100,000 people? Now, how much aid did this same freeper approve of giving to say hurricane victims, flood victims on the Mississippi, tornado victims in tornado alley, etc. All of those are areas that have the same problems year after year. So you have a place that has one tsunami in a century and it's "prone" to that kind of activity, you have places that get flooded every couple of years, places that get destroyed by hurricanes every few years, etc. and they are not "prone?"
Are these people really that ignorant?

39. It was an issue of honesty |
|
At the time the tax-collectors were pretty much told how much they were expected to produce, and then left alone as long as the gov't got the money it wanted. They had a reputation (apparently generally well-deserved) for demanding more than needed so as to skim a layer off for themselves.
The collection of tax is perfectly reasonable (rendering unto Caesar and all of that), but cheating the poor and oppressed is not.

Jesus hated lots of people. He was known for being a real prick to those he didn't like. If you actually read the bible you would see that Jesus would preach hatred and intolerance where ever he went. he was only concerned with gaining and advantage for himself and his so-called apostles. He used to kick puppies too, all in the name of god. :freak: O8)

32. Jesus never said anything about hating tax collectors |
|
The two tax collector moments I can think of are:
The parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector, in which Jesus spells out the proper way of praying and engaging other people: the pharisee prays loudly "I think you God for not making me like that tax collector over there" and the tax collector prays "Have mercy on me, a sinner". Obviously, in this case, the tax collector is the good guy.
The other time is with the short of stature tax collector who climbs into the tree to see Jesus, and Jesus calls to him and says "Get out of that tree, for I am coming to your house ofr dinner". And, dammit, I can't think of the name of that guy.
Freeps are so stupid. The people that Jesus railed against were the Pharisees and the Publicans and the Sadduccees. The "holier-than-thou" groups, who acted, well, like freepers, and didn't give charitably, taught that poor people are poor because of their sin, and said that they were more holy than anyone else because they followed more of the law than anyone else, and totally ignored every prophets' words about taking care of the widows, orphans, the poor, and those who couldn't find justice.

of what's going on in Freepland?
Someone here asks whether nuclear testing could set off a tsunami, folks answer "no", and we're branded as tinfoil hat loonies.
But Freepers don't want to help the tsunami victims, and no one notices (except DU). Figures.

|
That's actually pretty mild. The average pinhead there contends that they should pay NO taxes, apart from paying for the armed forces. They have raised victimhood to an art; the pure selfishness and constant whining is breath-taking. These are the people who think, against all proof to the contrary, that they are sure to get extremely wealthy any minute now. And they resent having to pay any of that hypothetical money to help the "losers" who aren't going to get rich.
They're an unhealthy brew of ignorance, delusion and greed.
