January 5, 2005

NEW YORK -- Ashlee Simpson's Orange Bowl halftime performance was a lemon, according to the 72,000-plus Miami crowd. The 20-year-old singer received a discernible chorus of boos following a performance of her song "La La."

2. It was awful
She was screaming into the microphone, and the words of the song, what I could make out, were something like "I feel like screaming".

Apparently the crowd agreed.

To be fair, the sound system was crappy. The other singers sounded bad, too.

Why do they never show the marching bands? Those kids practice for hours on end and their parents spend big bucks on instruments, lessons and travel, and they never get on tv.

3. That's what happens
That's what happens when the corporate media attempts to create a star with money, backing and promotion, instead of letting the cream rise naturally to the top. It especially doesn't work when the would-be-star is a no talent goof.

God forbid these companies get some actual qualified A & R people to get out in the world and find artists who have gotten really good at their craft while paying some dues.

4. I heard it on TV. It was one of the worst pieces of entertainment
I've ever seen on TV. She deserved more boos that she got.

5. I really wish her old man would just give up.
I've been waiting for the teen-pop backlash for years, and it hasn't happened yet. More proof that the '00's are the worst pop culture ddecade.

6. that woman is everywhere - I am sick of seeing her
on one New Years Eve show, they had her introducing people who could actually sing and play instruments. I noticed as I was rapidly changing the channel...
