Poll question: "Mega-tsunami" - should this name be retired? |
|
I'm a little bugged by combining Greek and Japanese roots for what's supposed to be an actual scientific term. But maybe it's just me.
The wave that hit Sumatra, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, etc. was not a mega-tsunami - just a plain ol' tsunami, which was more than bad enough. But do we need a new term for mega-tsunamis when the next one comes?

2. My own nomination - Iminami |
|
Iminami is Japanese for wave of purification. Considering what that tsunami did to the Sumatran coastline (you should see the before/after pictures), imagine what an iminami would do to America's east coast. Many scientists claim a fault line in the mid-Atlantic could set that very thing off if all conditions are right.

Whilst we're at it, television is a Greek-Latin bastardisation and should be banned.
