As a kid, did you really want to try dog food?
For some reason, those commercials for Chuck Wagon dog food made me almost salivate when I was 5-years-old. Something about adding water to the food...Gaines burgers, too.

Bizarre question, yes, but I don't think I'm the only one.

1. I did one day.
By mistake.
My eyes were watery and I dropped part of an Oreo cookie. I reached down and picked it up and popped it in my mouth.

Not a pleasant surprise when you think it is chocolate.

Quite tasty, actually.

9. Hey
I haven't had a MilkBone since I was five years old. I don't think I was sophisticated enough to really appreciate them then.

Kinda like a RyKrisp with more protein, to the best of my recollection.

13. Geeze...and I thought I was the only one.
Of course, I ate 'em back when I was in school, a long, long time ago.

Girls at the time had these 'themed' birthday corsages, with a different decoration for the various years. Gumdrops one year, sugar cubes for Sweet 16, etc. Mini Milk Bones were what year?

I don't remember, but it was supposed to symbolize the age when you'd be stricken with 'puppy love.' It was tradition to share around the candy on your corsage with your close friends. So, I tried 'em. You needed good jaws and strong teeth to get past the bone meal in 'em...but they weren't bad tasting, either.

19. I gave my youngest
Milk Bones to teeth on when he was a baby. It was at a time when teething rings had all been recalled due to bacterial infection. The Milk Bones were safer.

8. Milk bones
My best friend convinced me that EVERYONE liked Milk Bones, so I had to try the various colors and decide which I liked best. I said that the charcoal was great, but it was a lie. Peer pressure is a terrible thing.

Dog food and school paste, not necessarily at the same meal. A nutritionally balanced diet for kids.

21. LePage's school paste
came in a white plastic jar with an orange lid and was not bad. Not to be confused with something also made by LePage called mucilage, which came in a glass bottle with an orange rubber top with a slit in it and was used by the bigger kids (4th grade and up).

17. So embarassing, but yeah
Not the food that we got for our dog (boring kibbled stuff), but Gaines Burgers and that fake bacon stuff I can't remember the name of. My sister actually ate some of our dogs food (she was like 2 or 3) and we teased her forever about it.

24. Two of my buddies thought that it would be cool to try King Kuts
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 06:52 PM by JVS
I mean, they were ready to go up to the store and buy some.
I told them that it sounded like a bad idea. Had a nibble of Milkbone once though.

I wonder what the clerk would have done when she saw three small boys counting out coins and a can of dog food. I would hope that she'd refuse the sale
