Sad Times


I put my country’s flag away today.

It is a land I do not recognise.

I have no country – just a place to stay.



It used to be a nation you could say

that stood for justice, freedom, enterprise.

I put my country’s flag away today.



Our civil rights are being drained away,

all in the name of liberty we prize.

I have no country – just a place to stay.



It has become a nation of war- play.

Home or abroad we fight and terrorise.

I put my country’s flag away today.



While claiming to be Christian we betray

folk most in need of those who sympathise.

I have no country - just a place to stay.



We who were highly valued now portray

a nation large parts of the world despise.

I put my country’s flag away today.
