I am very disappointed in Obama. |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 03:37 PM by redqueen
on edit... okay not very disappointed. I'm surprised. And it wasn't in a good way. I guess with all the hoopla over him I expected a more liberal stance, so this kind of shocked me.
I'm just having a bad day.

Paraphrasing what his wife said recently, expectations are so high for him from so many various groups, from everyone in poor neighborhoods in Chicago, to Kenya, everyone should just get their disappointment out of the way early so that he can get to work.
Why, in particular, are you disappointed?

What good do you think it might have done him, or us, if he had? It would have been merely symbolic, and antithetical to his stated goals, imo.

I missed that... now I'm doubly disappointed.
Are Democrats as a party going forward or backward? Seriously.

He actually argued with Alan Keyes in the televised debates over exactly that issue. He never said one word about opposing them, and i watched ALL the debates. The Professor

People like 'em with vague generalities and no documented record. Both the general population and DUers, apparently.

I thought jp was saying the problem was people who wanted their senators to be bland and unoffensive, which is what Obama is doing.
Am I wrong?

I was saying that the type of person who tends to ascend to the national-scale political world in this country is going to have a worldview that will require a lot of compromise from progressive individuals. Give that person a written record of votes on controversial issues and he or she is done for. With DUers the problem is that they absolutely refuse to compromise on some values, with the general public it's that they will lap up any obfuscation of the record they come across and explaining it is never easy. No insult to DUers and they aren't wrong to refuse a compromise on some issues--it's just kind of depressing is all.

That would be in a sense ends justifies the means logic, but the whole situation just pisses me off, I guess.

I don't know... with all the Obama love that was going on around here, I kind of took it on faith that he'd be more liberal. Especially being from Chicago and all.
I guess it's my fault for having expectations.
*sigh*
Plus I'm just having a crappy day anyway, so this is just extra yuck.
