Not that it will help with the electricity mind you but that is where you might want to start. Sell your "uniqueness".

10. Privatization of a public utility equals mega-nightmare for the public!
I haven't seen anyone discuss it on this board yet, but as my friends and associates who spend time in Europe or ARE European point out, in Europe, electric wires and phone lines are all UNDERGROUND so they don't get blown down by windstorms by the hundreds of thousands every year, or all at once as with this hurricane. Of course, our profit making utilities never invested in such improvements to their infrastructures in the past - would have severely reduced profits. And it's too late now - with the economic disaster Bush has wrought with his deficit spending and tax cuts for the uber wealthy (who live in communities with underground wiring), our society could never afford this sensible improvement to our "public" (LOL) utilities.

11. So how did you manage this post?
You break too easily. I lived well over a year without electricity. What I really missed was a good hot shower. Now I am probably getting close to 100 days without any running water. (I shower at the gym, thank you very much.) I also am trying to make it into November before I get the gas turned back on. Until then it is long underwear and space heaters. This ain't so bad.

13. You will make it
I had to get my family of four along without water for two months after a flood ruined our well. Filled up jugs for 20 gallons to get us by for a day. That included everything except for laundry. It is amazing how little water you really need to get by on.

14. Hang in there, Demman
We were out until last Thursday night (we are in Bon Air). Cable plus computer access came on today. Had to shower and eat at work. Couldn't surf the net at work, though--too damn much work to do.

This has been a real pain! Worst of it all was dealing with a husband who couldn't get his TV/HBO fix every day.
