I've now gotten 3 calls from the American Gov't Grants Commission |
|
During the first call, I was told by a fellow with a very American name (Dan Smith or somesuch) with a decidedly foreign accent, that I had been selected to receive a grant of $30,000, no strings attached.
"Why?" I asked. "Simply because you're a tax-paying citizen," came the reply. All I had to pay for was shipping and handling!
"Ah...Shipping and handling," I said, "Thanks but we're not interested." After hanging up, I dialed my return call service and wrote down the number: 040-376-5215. I guess that's an international number.
A couple of minutes later, he called again...I recognized the voice. This time his voice kind of faded away and we were disconnected.
A few minutes ago, I received yet another call from the same organization. I can't remember if it was the same guy who called the first two times, but his name was a very common US name. This time he was happy to inform me that I'd won a grant for $8,000. "That's interesting," I replied, "A few minutes ago you called and said I'd be receiving $30,000...Did the dollar drop that fast? I'm still not interested, but thanks for calling."
So, given the nature of these calls, and the fact that there's some poor sucker out there who will be taken in by this scam, who do I call to report the incident?

They might be tracking matters like this. Most people who are scamming the phones tend to stay in the same area code for awhile, especially if it proves fruitful. Your AG might already have this on the radar, and if not, you will help put it on. I know that our state AG(in MO) goes quite public in warning the public when the latest scam is making the rounds.
