As an aside, you know who "invented" the term "ambient"?
It was Brian Eno, on the back of one of his more obscure recordings he descibed a kind of music that was easily ignored yet involving and interesting if your attention was turned to it.
Of course, the term was later co-opted to mean "soft music to come off your X by" :)
