Let us praise the iPod- for it is divinity in machine form
I just got my 20 gig iPod today (late Xmas gift), and holy shit.
Amazing.
Simply amazing.
It's so beautiful, so easy to use...and I only have 500 songs on it (the rest of my CDs are back in my dorm).
Best. Invention. EVER!!!

1. I need to get one that works for me, I am a tech idiot I admit
Alas, for once someone has less music than I do, I have 814 songs on iTunes now :). BTW, if you need a problem to convert your CD files to MP3, I can set you up with a good one but be warned it takes time.

2. dude, you STILL haven't figured it out??
Mine was a snap. Literally took 2 seconds to install, and 2 minutes to import all my songs.

Ive had one and installed it but my luck sucks and later because of some weird reason, I hook it in the computer and the comptuer can't read it, goddamn, it sucks. I have something called an IRiver that someone recommended to me, goddamn I should never trust anyone named Osama, true story, his name was Osama :).

6. be careful charging it
Don't recharge it if you only used the battery for an hour. Let it run out all the way, and then charge it back all the way. It's like any other non-replaceable battery (cell phone, etc) in that it can only hold a certain number of charges.

I've had mine for 1.5 years and the battery life is good or nearly as good (can't tell a difference!) as the day I bought it.

7. Apple is just another corporation looking to be a monopoly.
iTunes user sues Apple over FairPlay DRM

snip

Thomas William Slattery has filed a class action suit against Apple Computer Inc. in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging Apple is guilt of violating federal antitrust laws and California's unfair competition law by requiring users who buy music from the iTunes Music Store to use an iPod if they plan to take their music on the road with them. Slattery's suit cuts to the heart of an ongoing issue related to Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology present in commercial downloaded music.

Songs sold through the iTunes Music Store are protected using a DRM technology called FairPlay. Exclusive to the iTunes Music Store, FairPlay enables individually downloaded songs to be played back on up to five Macs or PCs, burnt to an unlimited number of CDs and downloaded to an unlimited number of iPods connected to authorized computers. The DRM technology is lauded by some as a model for the industry, but it has its detractors.

Apple's "unlawful bundling and tying arrangement" of the iPod and iTunes Music Store violates federal and state laws "by suppressing competition, denying consumer choice, and forcing consumers to pay supra-competitive prices for their digital portable music players," says Slattery's complaint, a copy of which MacCentral has received.

9. THAT ISDUMB - I have an ipod full of music, and only ONE SONG from Apple
Slattery I guess didn't read the manual. It appears that his main complaint is that his MP3 player doesnt support the AAC format of iTunes store. . . he needs to take that up with the manufacturer of his player. . . .

12. Helpful Tip for those that haven't got / can't afford an I-Pod
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 09:49 AM by corksean
DON'T waste money on expensive ipods. Simply think of your favourite tune and hum it. If you want to "switch tracks", simply think of another song you like and hum that instead.
