Campus Statue Replaced By Bird Bath - Statue Had A BARE BREAST!!!

<snip>

DAYTONA BEACH -- Bethune-Cookman College students are returning to campus this week to find a long-standing statue gone.
The pink and green Alpha Kappa Alpha statue which stood outside White Hall for 31 years has been removed, just in time for the inauguration of new college President Trudie Kibbe Reed later this month. It has been replaced by a birdbath.

The statue, which depicted a Greek goddess clad in a toga with one breast exposed, caught Reed's attention not long after she started work in nearby White Hall.

She felt it was in poor taste and didn't help with the mission of mentoring young women to respect their bodies.

"I had questions about the appropriateness of a Greek goddess on a campus with a Christian heritage," Reed said. "It is inconsistent with the mission and heritage of the college."

Reed asked members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, including Provost Ann Taylor-Green, to consider taking it down.

Taylor-Green, who has been at the college for 36 years, said she and representatives from both the graduate and undergraduate chapters of the sorority agreed it was time to take the statue down.

"At one time, it was a symbol, but it is no longer, and has not been for several years," Taylor-Green said. "We agreed to remove the statue and replace it."

1. If they really wanted to teach them to respect their bodies...
...they would have put a burqa on that statue!

10. Do re-call what Hitler did to modern art.
And look what they did to the large 1000 year old live carving in Afghan hills. These people seem to be nuts. Next we will have to give up Chicken front white meat. I do not wish to say the name.

3. Sounds like a Christian College.
IF it is I would say i'm suprised the thing got put up in the first place. Let them do what they want on their own private property...I just don't want to hear their shit about god being in the government.

:eyes:

The term Christ is derived from the Greek noun Χριστός Khristós which means "anointed one," and is a translation of the Hebrew word Moshiach (Hebrew: משיח). Christian means "belonging to Christ."

6. Alpha Kappa Alpha -
this would be what you in the US call a sorority, I guess? Better rename all those, nationwide. Can't have things in Jesusland with foreign names, surely? God wouldn't like that at all.

7. "Respect your body" - next in line will be "Good American women don't
use Make-Up and nail polish - only the degenerated French do". And skirts WILL have to cover the knees.

12. Mary McLeod Bethune, a founder of the school, was a giant....
A leader in civil rights--especially voting rights.

It's interesting that the current president finds a bronze breast the most important issue of the day.

The article at the top of the thread points out that the she belongs to a rival sorority--but nobody really thinks that's a problem.
