THE ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION - "So Into You"
When you walked into the room There was voodoo in the vibes I was captured by your style But I could not get your eyes Now I stand here helplessly Hoping you'll get into me
I am so into you I can't think of nothing else I am so into you I can't think of nothing else Thinkin' how it's gonna be Whenever I get you next to me It's gonna be good Don't you know From your head to toe Gonna love you all over Over and over Me into you, you into me Me into you
I'm so into you I'm so into you...
When you walked into the room There was voodoo in the vibes I was captured by your style But I could not get your eyes Now I stand here helplessly Hopin' you'll get into me
I am so into you I can't get to nothing else I am so into you, baby I can't get to nothing else, no, no, no Come on baby I'm so into you Love the things you do Listen, baby You're driving me crazy Come on baby I'm so into you Love the things you do

7. They were session pros |
|
They homebased out of Studio One in Doraville, GA (Atlanta suburb)... their first back-up gig was for Roy Orbison in the 60's, called "The Candymen", then producer/songwriter Buddy Buie formed a band out of them re-named "The Classics IV", and they scored a late 60's hit called "Spooky". Debut came out in 1973, with a vocalist named Ronnie Justo. He was replaced by Ronnie Hammond a year later, and they had a few hits in the late 70's/early 80's like "So Into You", "Another Man's Woman" (which has the best bass solo in rock history), "Alien", and "Homesick".
Saw them in 1986, with a line-up featuring 4 out of 6 original members, and it was a solid set. They got back together in the late 90's, putting out new material for the first time since 1981.

I swear, I spent all of my study halls in high school reading the music encyclopedias in the library, and making comments in the margins. I learned SOMETHING in high school, despite their best efforts to the contrary ;-)
I still have lots of ARS on vinyl, and still enjoy them. Did you know that was ARS drummer Robert Nix playing the drums on Skynyrd's studio version of "Tuesday's Gone"? They were all good friends.

2. Didn't Take Long for That Band to Go into Freefall |
|
after their initial success. I know that ARS had broken up by 1983 because that's when I saw a band formed by the ARS lead singer perform at a local pizza pub! Startling to hear the fellow's unmistakable vocal style in a band playing such a nondescript venue.

15. How about ARS' Imaginary Lover? |
|
IMAGINARY LOVER
Imaginary lovers Never turn you down When all the others turn you away They're around It's my private pleasure Midnight fantasy Someone to share my Wildest dreams with me. Imaginary lover you're mine anytime Imaginary lovers. When ordinary lovers Don't feel what you feel... And real-life situations lose their thrill, Imagination's unreal Imaginary lover, imaginary lover You're mine anytime Imaginary lovers never disagree They always care They're always there when You need satisfaction guaranteed Imaginary lover, imaginary lover You're mine all the time My imaginary lover, You're mine anytime.

into the player in my car and making that '69 Nova rock!! It always pissed me off when the splice was right in the middle of the best song on the tape. Oh, those memories...
