After a full month of working out-running, ~200 situps a day, pushups...
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 10:45 AM by underpants
eating before 9 PM
Fitting much more comfortably into my clothes
Small breakfasts (after running at least a mile every day)
getting the X back in my quads
Moderate lunches
Lots of water (nothing new there)
Two notches in on the belt
and drinking way less "high calorie" drinks
Noticeable (my wife says) improvement in my buttocks.
Feeling great
Getting lots of sleep*

I've gained 2 pounds.

WhooooooooooHoooooooooooooooooo!

Truth be told I have slacked off a bit this week (*beat from staying up late the watch the bowl games - THAT was worth it) so maybe it will improve.

I can say that I have gotten to where I am ready to REALLY start training.

5. If your clothes are fitting better, and you've lost two belt notches,
then you KNOW you've lost some fat! Get a measuring tape and start charting your progress in inches instead; throw away the scale!

BTW, Awesome! Way to go!

11. basically I overdo it every time I eat
can't eat some chips, have to eat the whole bag. Love junk food and candy and graze all day long and yes, get up in the middle of the night and snack. I don't care for dieting at all - it sucks and I can't believe the number of people who are willing to eliminate whole food groups in their effort to be thinner. It's not bread that's making people fat IT'S TOO MANY CALORIES AND NOT ENOUGH ACTIVITY, the same it has ALWAYS BEEN. Get off your ass people! MOVE!

16. Sounds like me ten years ago when I was REALLY in shape
I swear I thought a box of pasta and a bottle of sauce was ONE serving. My roomate at the time used to crack up when I would get 80% of the way through a pan of baked spaghetti....stop....take a deep breath and finish it off.

I thought a box of mac and cheese was a single serving too.

Those were the days of the college schedule, hours of basketball in the gym, and the versaclimber.

I figured out 11 years ago dieting was not for me. LOL, I just ate a giant steak, about the size of four decks of cards (keep in mind I work nights so my what I eat/when is always purty strange). :D

10. I have lost 10 pounds since Monday!
I can't eat! I'm too sick! My best friend in the world died Tuesday night! My 12 year old pointer 'Howdy' is gone forever! I've lost 30 pounds since I had my heart attack December 16th! Lo fat cardboard-like food is what I've been eating and doing my walks! My dog was like my shadow and I am about as sad right now as I've ever been about anything! Howdy was a class act!

Old Howdy was always on my heels everywhere I went! He was like one of my kids! You know how hillbillies are about their hound dogs! I'm going to go pick up two pointer pups this afternoon! They both have faces like the old boy! They've been growing up together for 8 months so I'm getting them both instead of splitting them up! I've had dogs all my life but Howdy was the best ever! Hope these pups will help me over the hump!

Congratulations. And keep up the good work.

I've been dieting for over a year and feel a lot better myself. Low carb, less fat, less sugar, a lot less alcohol. I've lost a few pounds and feel much better but I plan on doing much more in the near future. I've even put aside all my old vices- the occasional smoke, etc. My next step is to join the community health club.

Can't wait to check out that ass. ;-)

17. I'm pretty active, even without the regimented exercise.
I walk a mile to work from the train, and then a mile back, usually at a very brisk pace.

I do lot's of work at home tending the lawn, etc.

I've always got some kind of home reconstruction or remodelling project going on, etc.

I hike and ride my bike...stuff like that. I'm lucky that I'm fairly athletic and healthy and was able to do things like play full-court basketball into my 40's.

But right now, I'm almost finished with remodelling the last room in the house so I need to start going to the club or something. My biggest problem is that I sit around on my ass all day with you jokesters. My job is kinda dull and boring these days.

24. It's the lifestyle that matters....
Any diet where you have massive weigh t loss early is most likely a diet that you can not maintain forever. Changing your lifestyle so you eat healthy foods and exercise regularly is the only way to maintain weight loss. It takes time, but once you become accustomed to healthy food and exrercise, it is hard to imagine living any other way. I get totally grossed out over some fatty foods now. If I don't exercise, something is missing from my day.

25. SOunds like not much to worry about..
The 2 pounds is probably muscle. And you've definitely lost fat if you're down 2 notches on the belt.

One thing though, a mile isn't really that far. That's like what, maybe 8 minutes of running? You need to be doing at least 20 minutes...

but good work though...you're reminding me that i need to get back to the gym, once a week Ultimate isn't cutting it for staying in good shape.

28. You play Ultimate?
I joined a league a few years ago but gave it up. Only 6 or 7 people showed up for our games so I got tired of never having subs-way too many wind sprints for my taste.

Well about the 8 minute mile thing-It is city running so it does take a little longer. I could drive out to go for runs but I have never done that and I just don't like the idea of doing it.

32. I started 2 weeks ago
And I'm feeling much better as well. Pants are fitting looser. I don't own any scales, but I'm sure i've lost some weight. I'm seeing muscle definition in my stomach.

I need to figure out a good weight training program for my upper body. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know(dumbells are all I have)

I've been:

drinking lots of water (instead of a few cokes a day)
doing some kind of work out 2-3 days ON then 1 day OFF
usually I run 2-3 miles with my dog
when I have time I'll ride 10-15 miles on my bike
eating fruit for breakfast and and snack in the afternoon or evening
eating smaller portions, more protien and veggies...less snack foods

My workout used to be

20-30 push-ups (start off with 10 for the first week or so)
3-5 "Diamond" pushups (put index fingers together and thumbs together to make a <> )
and 3-5 pull ups/chin ups(hands towards me / away from me) with my feet on a chair. But I had to take down the bar on the bathroom door.

ON EDIT- 5 sets-every 15 minutes or every 30 minutes at home.

What are you going to add to your routine?

Have you checked your body fat percentages? That's a better test than just looking at the scale.

I tore a groin just before thanksgiving and put on a lot the last couple of months. Time to get back into things, slowly so I don't reinjure myself. Aiming for a 2X bodyweight deadlift originally for my birthday in Feb but probably by summer now.

43. If you had to move your belt in two notches, that gain is muscle.
And as you know, muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less space. It's a beautiful thing. Muscle also burns calories faster than fat.

I wanted to lessen my dependence on the gym (when my membership expires I'm not renewing), so I bought a series of cardio-with-resistance videos to do at home. I also have a weight bench and a good set of free weights. I exercise every day. Just a few weeks of these videos have made my butt even better than 10 months of the elliptical did. And it's so much easier to work out at home - no travel time, no worries about child care, no worries about bad weather, and I can get it done before everyone else in the household gets up in the morning.

Anyway, I didn't mean to turn this into a post about me. It sounds like you are doing GREAT.

45. I belong to Gold's. It was a good thing for me to join.
I had a trainer for 14 weeks, and I learned a lot. However, it's just so expensive to keep up the membership, plus the 30 bucks a month for childcare, when I can have just as good a fitness routine at home. Also, in the spring and fall, I'd prefer to do a good bit of running outside and not inside a dark gym.

I already had the free weights, but when my inlaws gave me a weight bench for Christmas, that really set up my home gym nicely.
