Well, that was quite a hell night |
|
I love my job but on the occasions when I have a night like last night, I wonder how much longer I'll be able to do it. I'm 41 and usually I feel like I'm about 30 but on the killer work nights I can come home feeling about 82. This is definitely one of those nights.
I'm a nurse. Specifically a Labor and Delivery Nurse. When I got to work last night I had a yen for working with a patient in active labor. Five hours of pushing later, she had to have a C/S. Just as the light of the morning hit the window, her beautiful child announced his arrival, loudly and to much joy all around. In that moment all of the mother's pain seemed washed away. It was good.
My pain, on the other hand, is announcing itself as back spasms. I've taken all the ibuprofen that's safe to take and we'll just see if I can get out of bed this afternoon to go do it again.
I really do love my job, I just don't want it to kill me.
Must have light duty tonight.

Hope your back feels better soon. I'm in nursing school right now and they keep telling us to take care of our backs! I've got Maternity and Ped's this semester. I'll be thinking of ya. :)

3. My friend got an award from her doctor |
|
Her first child. Her water broke at 8pm at night. She didn't think it was enough liquid to be THE water so she went to sleep. Slept through the whole night until the alarm clock woke her up. Tells her husband, "I think I'm having contractions."
To the car they go, call the doctor on cell phone. He has 9AM golf date. She was doing her best to keep from delivering in the back seat of the car. They get to ER and the baby is out in 2 minutes -- 'push, push...baby'.
Her doctor made his tee time.
