I got ANOTHER Capital One application in the mail today!
Is there any way to get these people to stop sending me this junk? What a waste of valuable natural resources!

1. I always send the applications back to them.
That way, they have to spend the postage on their postage-return envelopes. I take a big black Sharpie and write NO!!!! in big letters all over the application. It's just my own, petty attempt at revenge, but at least it demonstrates that they're wasting their money targeting me.

4. From what I have heard, Capital One is a positively horrific company, and
I would never apply for one of their cards. I just wish they would quit sending me their crap!

Couldn't someone get one of these applications and apply for credit in someone else's name?

7. I know a person working for them who is making over 100K a year
last time I spoke to this person, he said it was a great company to work for...but that he was concerned about the number of jobs they were outsourcing overseas...

6. just write "REFUSED" on the envelope
and put it back in the mail box. That way they have to pay the postage coming and going and eventually they will get the message.

10. Really, I didn't know you could refuse mail.
I usually just shred them. I was wondering if the post office gives these companies your address.

My father-in-law receives some of our junk mail/credit card applications and I've been wondering how to get that to stop. We've never lived there, but my father-in-law had his mail sent to our place for a short period of time when he and his family was moving back to the US from overseas. When he forwarded his mail and his wife's mail to his new address he made the mistake of forwarding all people at our address with his family name instead of filling out two individual forward requests. My husband and I have the same last name as his dad, of course. The post office fixed to so all of our important mail (bills) get sent to our address, but we still get a lot of junk mail and credit card applications sent to my father-in-laws place.

9. Beware of Capital One. I get the solicitaion every day, too.
LA Times Jan 5, 2005

What they don't report could cost you
* Some credit card firms don't share consumers' credit limits with FICO, a practice that can clobber home buyers.

WASHINGTON — It is still a well-kept secret of the credit card industry — and it can be exceptionally costly to home buyers and mortgage applicants.

Credit card companies may be depressing consumers' credit scores without their knowledge by not reporting credit limits to the three national credit bureaus. Lower credit scores, in turn, push borrowers into higher interest rates when they apply for a mortgage and can add thousands of dollars of needless extra costs for them as homeowners.

Customers carrying Capital One credit cards can be certain that their credit limits are never reported because Capital One confirmed that its policy is to withhold limits, whether it depresses scores or not.
