1. Normally I'd be right there with you

But they've got the perfect director for it, so no complaints from me. I've heard that they aren't toning it down the slightest.

19. I've only seen bits of "Waking Life"
But as soon as I heard that he was using elements from that film for ASD I was already in line for tickets.

;-)

2. Actually I'm looking forward to it
Richard Linklater IMO has a very good feeling for what a PKD novel movie should be like.

3. $)%&#^! Why do these people act like Dick is the only author
out there? I mean, I like his work, but this is friggin' ridiculous.

5. HA!
I rmemeber the fit that Steven King fans threw over The Shining because the movie didn't have the hotel blow up from the boiler room not being vented. They were so dogmatic about it that they had to have the movie redone so that it would be "correct".
sorry, I don't think PKD fans are anywhere near as fanatic as a lot of other mainstream author fans.

6. I'm not talking about PKD fans, I'm talking about all of the movies
that have been made from his stories, to the exclusion of all the other authors whose properties could easily be adapted to the the screen.

11. Granted, I think some of the movies should have been left alone
but why do you think they'be been making PKD movies to the exclusion of other authors? To my knowledge, there have been 7 PKD movies:
Blade Runner
Total Recall
Minority Report
Paycheck
Impostor
Screamers
Confessions D'Un Barjo (Confessions of a Crap Artist-French)
I don't know, just seems like not that many for someone who wrote 25 novels and close to 200 short stories.

13. Don't forget rip offs
The Terminator is a rip off of Dick's story 'Second Variety' combined with some work of Harlan Ellison.

14. Read the credits from the Terminator
It was taken pretty heavily from "I have No Mouth and I must Scream" by Harlan Ellison. PKD doesn't figure into it.

16. Disagree
What can I say. I'm not the first person who sees or saw a connection between 'Second Variety' and Harlan Ellison. Just because it's uncredited doesn't mean it wasn't ripped off. In fact wouldn't it have to be uncredited for it to have been ripped off?

17. We agree to disagree then, I guess
Robots designed to pass as humans have been a science fiction staple for a long time, whether to destroy humans or better serve them. the core of the Terminator story, IMO, is how computers became self-aware and decided humans were obsolete.
So, it could be as much taken from Asimov as from Dick...

7. I've wondered that too
I mean I love PKD. I have all his books, and the complete short story collection. There are a ton of good stories in there, but there are other good stories anywhere.

My only guess is that the rights for them must cost next to nothing.

I mean come on...Scanners?

15. I hope so!
I would love to see Ubik made into a movie! And I think it would make a better movie than most of the short stories they've done so far.

20. VALIS should be as wide-read as The DaVinci Code, imo
And would be a good brain-fuck film, if done by someone that's actually done a lot of psychedelics. Or, at the very least, a hell of a lot of PURE NO2. I know PKD had his experiences under dentist NO2, but the only time I've ever come close to experiencing states of being like his were under the stuff a friend of mine use to get.

(He had a 20 lb nitrous tank and we used to have NO2 parties...this was about 10 years ago.)
