Note to identity thieves: don't steal the identity of a sex offender

CLINTON, Conn. - A good rule of thumb for an identity thief is not to steal the name of someone whose reputation is worse than yours, such as a sex offender.

Police said James Perry stole the name and identity of a neighbor who turned out to be a convicted sex offender.

Perry stole the identity of Robert Kowalski in order to obtain a drivers license, police said. Perry was living in Florida at the time and Kowalski was his neighbor.

Perry had four drunken driving arrests which he believed would make it difficult to get a license legally in Connecticut, police said.

I remember one guy who tried using his brother's id when he got pulled over, because his drivers' license was suspended. Turns out baby brother had multiple warrants. A full custody arrest and strip/body cavity search later...the guy learned his lesson.

I swear, we spent so much time convicting the stupid we never had time to go after the smart criminals.

Lately, a nearby city has been running a sting operation to nail pedophiles soliciting sex on the internet. Featured on the news quite frequently, and yet, almost every night there's a new one, usually living within the viewing area of the local TV station. What idiots! One even used the computer at the local library to troll for victims.
