Look at me, I'm now an aunt!

I'm exhausted because I just got home from my sister's house. We helped her bring her new baby (my new nephew) Hunter home from the hospital today! I've always been absolutely petrified of kids, but I'm getting better at it.

He was born Thursday night at 6:30, and weighed 9 lbs, 1 oz and was 21.5 inches long. The kid is huge, and my poor sister didn't take any painkillers or anything.

So lookee here, DU! I'm an aunt!

18. hey now, just my type..

I worked on a couple of Medal of Honor games (and at another company before, but their stuff isn't as cool, so I don't claim it.)

Actually, I was wearing that sweatshirt tonight when I went to buy some wine and the guy was all "what are you playing now?" like I was a poser or something. I got "GTA San Andreas" for Christmas, so it was cool just to the look on his face. A girl? A blonde? Who plays video games? hehe

The Medal of Honor games were actually pretty sweet. . . or at least the one I played (Allied Assault and the first expansion, I forget what it was called now). Good stuff!

I've been so tied up with political stuff this year that I haven't dedicated much time to gaming (I did do the whole Doom3 and Half Life 2 thing just because I wanted to see all the new technology though).

21. I was a tester

altohough I did almost bumped up to design on the Ghost Recon games at another company.

At EA I specifically did multiplayer stuff.. making sure everything worked okay, all the weapons did what they're suppossed to, you're not able to get up onto a roof and snipe everyone from afar.. that kind of thing.

I really don't play that many games anymore.. I have a PS2 and a Gamecube and I looooove the Silent Hill, GTA, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear games, but I kinda got sucked into this whole world I didn't really expect.

I grew up in the South and a lot of my friends from high school had babies while I was at college, and then I moved to California, so I only saw the kids when they were already old. I've never wanted kids myself, and just been terrified.

When we got to the hospital after my sister was in labor, I went in to see her and they had this speaker thing hooked up to her so you could hear the baby's heartbeat. It was completely surreal and I was really freaked out by the whole thing. My aunt was also there, and she answered all my questions and stuff (I was raised in the kind of place where, if youre a girl, you're just expected to know everything about children, so I had never asked). I made myself go back in.

I was able to hold him about 10 minutes after he was born (I have a picture of that, too, but didnt post it) and he started crying.. then I held him tighter, and he stopped. It was an amazing, amazing thing for me.

I was once involved with a woman who had an 18-month-old. I loved that little guy so much--which, unfortunately, made the eventual break-up all the more painful for me. Still, I wouldn't trade my brief flirtation with daddyhood for anything!

20. It was weird

When I was with him yesterday and today, I really wanted to hold him. I've never had much of a maternal instinct, but I just really wanted to hold him, and didn't know why. Oh, well. I also sang him his very first song... the theme to Land of the Lost.

Except that I don't have any groovy pictures since I'm 250 miles away, and no one has e-mailed the goods. (Baby had to wait a week -- couldn't have decided to be born the weekend I was visiting. Nooooo.) It's a girl: 23 inches, 8 lbs 3.5 oz. It was a fairly quick labor for the first time; less than 12 hours from the first panginess (mama didn't bring her bag to the hospital because she didn't really think she was in labor). Everyone's OK.

And I've got you beat: I'm 32 and have never held a newborn. :cry:

That's awesome- must've been a week for big babies. Holding him was amazing.. it was maybe 20 minutes after he was born, and he started crying. I held him a little tighter, and he stopped. I actually teared up, and here I thought I was dead inside :).
