Latin America has the best soap operas
I grew up on a steady diet of these. They rock. The Brazilian ones are a bit pornographic but that's okay. It's ALLLLLL good.

1. Personally I liked "Maria" back in its day
Although here's a downer for you - most of the Latin American soaps are filmed in Miami :(

2. Really?

That sucks. :( I mean, I know they portray upper classes but you'd think they'd bother to shoot them in Latin American capitals.

3. Yeah kinda bummed me out when I first heard it too
Of course I always wondered why so many of the guys on those shows had Cuban accents - now I know why...

7. There's been a few filmed in Colombia
I know because when I was just there, my family had a habit of pointing out locations throughout Bogota where such-and-such novela was filmed.
At one restaurant outside Bogota, built to look like a ranch in a small pueblo, we even stopped to take photos because the novela was so popular.
I, of course, can't remember the names to any of the novelas they were talking about.

4. I can't stand them
But my mom thrives on them. I think they are way overdramatic, but the women are just so gorgeous.

6. That's what makes them fun
They're not high art but they're entertaining. They don't pretend to be something they're not.

8. Brazilian "Novelas" are as good as soft core porn
But they're really not a big deal to Brazilians because they aren't prudish like Americans.

9. They broadcast them
dubbed into Spanish on the local Spanish tv station. Pixelation galore! It was beautiful

13. It was probably Maria Mercedes
That was the one I remember her from and I watched telenovelas when I was younger so it should be around that time
