AAAAAAHHHHH I turn 20 on Wednesday
This is really fucking scary, 20 years old, and my youth has been a waste. I never got to have many of the fucking experiences that other people have had. I wish I was turning, say, 17.

OK, 18-19 is cool, but the twenties are so much better but you have to make sure you don't get into a rut and let stuff pass you by. Serious. Twenties are way way better. You can go to bars and clubs and drink and stuff. I'm laughing because you just don't know!

P.S. I turned 30 recently.

2. Your youth has been a waste!?
You're still in your youth! Enjoy it! Before long you'll be turning 30 wondering where your "youth" went ... and when you're 40 you'll realize you were still in it at 30!

Happy early Birthday!!

4. Get a grip.
If you don't stop this, when you are 87 years old, you are going to remember freaking out over turning 20 and you are going to want to go back in time and kick your 20 year old self's ASS.

Age is just age. It's nothing. It means nothing. We have a weird hangup over it in our culture, but it's just a weird hangup.

I'm 34 and fucking love it. My 30s have totally rocked. A waste? You haven't even lived yet! If things are this good now, I say BRING ON the 40s! I'm going to party even harder then!

9. Hah! I'm old enough to be your mother!
I turned 37 last month -- besides the fact that everybody at work forgot my birthday (which was actually a bonus!) -- I figure I've still got a whole 3 years to go for my "young and irresponsible" phase.

18. Thanks ronnykmarshall!
But seriously -- my twenties were way better than my teens, and thirties have been the best so far. For all the reasons Bouncy Ball mentioned (except for the hair thing -- still coping with that).

Chances are, if you were my mother, you probably would have put me up for adoption.

21. naw, I'd probably have kept you ...
My mom and dad would be spoiling you right now ... and the best thing is, you'd be through the terrible teens and getting ready to go out and find yourself. (I got along much better with my folks after I was 20 and had my own place.)

I'd probably have had to put off my graduate degree ... but hey, the technology is so superior these days, it would be a lot less work to do my MSc topic now (as opposed to the late 1980s).

ENJOY this time in your life. You'll be just fine. Sweetie, just wait 10 years. Your 30's will ROCK!! I fuckin' loved my 30's!

16. THIR-ties! THIR-ties! THIR-ties!
I noticed other adults started taking me more seriously once I hit 30.

I noticed I also cared less what other people thought about me or my life.

I was finally not poor.

Finally got my hair under control.

(Oh and I don't want to get this thread locked, but um, other things got WAY better and more interesting, too.)

I just turned 24 in November. With the exception of the past 2 elections and the passing of my father last year, I've been pretty happy so far.

29. No, that's not quite right.
The teens are, as they told me in my teens, "The greatest days of your life... so far. "

You don't have to be doing something specific with your life right now. You're just beginning the path to who you'll become. Enjoy the trip!

30. I've never heard of anyone freaking ot over turning 20.
That's just odd.

To the original poster:

Relax, you've got plenty of time to do whatever you want with your life. I've done tons of stuff since I was 20. I'll be 26 in April. I still feel very young, and I am in far better shape now (after having one child) than I was even as a teenager.

Trust me. I'm old enough to be your mother. Don't count yourself "old" before your time. There is PLENTY of time for "experiences."
