& FWIW...I had been doing evening hikes in Griffith Park in L.A. for several years. A liberal/progressive couple I knew from these hikes moved from L.A. (I think they lived in Altadena or Eagle Rock) to San Miguel in SLO county to get out of the L.A. rat race & be "closer to nature". Within a relatively short period of time, however, they had moved back to L.A., having found that part of SLO county unbearably conservative. Of course, that was then...
With Cayucos being on the coast, I'd think there would be more progressive, artist community type folks than you would find further inland in the more strictly agricultural areas. Just guessing...haven't been there for several years.
Good luck, though.

my parents have rented a "winter home" in Cayucos for a few years. I have visited a couple of times, and I don't think it's super-freepery. Like the previous poster said, being on the coast adds more free spirits to the mix - surfers, etc.
It is also beautiful. Congratulations! Hey, maybe you'll even meet my folks there this winter. Small world!
