Remember "Rock the Bells", "Dear Evette", and "My Radio"? Those were way old school. Public Enemy could possibly have been added, but they were very un "old school", much like N.W.A. IMHO

There's a LOT that are older than Sugar Hill Gang. Sugar Hill Gang stole half their lyris from the Cold Crush Crew. Sugar Hill Gang was record company invention along the lines of one of todays boy bands. They looked for a bunch of people that they could toss together and make money with.

Doesn't make their songs any less memorable, but it's worth noting.

i saw Snoop Dog do La Di Da Di at la la palloza in NY and the kids were really unreceptive. pissed me off. all they wanted to hear was the rock. open your mind. i am a rocker but can appreciate all kinds of music except country.

of course Run DMC is the king of it all. and i give them all respect. especially since we lost Jam master Jay last year.
