Has anyone else noticed
that Burma is conspicuously missing from the news coverage of the tsunami and the relief efforts. Can anyone tell me why?

1. I believe the government claims...
I've read that the government claims they weren't affected much and that they don't need any help. However, experts believe that to be false, and their models show the coast should have been hit pretty hard.

2. Sure... simple answer
Burma is a brutal repressive place that cares less about its people than North Korea. A few less fishing pesants means nothing to them, they can make more.

4. my understanding is that burma DOES accept aid
but quietly, and only after making a big stink about not needing it.
it's a pride thing, which apparently matters more to them than actually getting aid to their people quickly.

6. isn't it now called Myramar or something like that?
I just hate it when nations change their name, especially all those African ones when I went to all the trouble to memorize them all way back when..

Yeah, I know..they were all colonies then, and so on.

It took me forever to figure out Belize was really old British Honduras
