2. Madden has been doing it for years... |
|
used to drive me nuts when he was at Fox 'cause he always did the Cowboy games. One of his favorite passtimes was circling how far the sweat had turned the offensive line's pants darker.
Someone has needed to take that "telestrator" away from him for YEARS.

3. Madden is so fucking lame |
|
Madden: Well, Pat, what you saw there is the quarterback throwing the ball. The quarterback has to throw the ball sometimes. Other times he hands it off to a running back. But when he doesn't hand it off to a running back, he throws the ball. And that's what you saw there: the quarterback throwing the ball.
Summerall: Sometimes he runs with it himself.
Madden: Yeah! Sometimes the quarterback will run with the ball himself. When he's not passing it or handing it off.
Madden just ruins (for me) any game he announces. I hate his fat fucking face. And I hate his voice even more.

The telestrator has been a part of TV broadcasts since the 80's.

5. But not the gimmick of circling all the fans in the stands. |
|
I'm not talking about circling all the player's butts, Like John has done since about 1983 or so. I'm talking about circling fan's faces in the stands, when they show a big homemade sign saying "Circle me, Bert!!!"

7. But football needs him. |
|
The audience gets what it deserves. I turned it on tonight because I was looking for Nightline.
The Bears and Packers were playing. Having come from Wisconsin, and having had worn toy Packer helmets as a kid, I thought I'd watch the game. Normally I pass on pro football, as I pass on pro wrestling. But it was the Packers and Bears, you know?
The Packers won, and that was good, but (and maybe this is only my perspective after so many years of not watching) hasn't the focus turned to the announcers? Oh, well; I have no dog in the fight. I watched because I know my son likes it, and it'll make for half-assed conversation when I see him next. Oh, yeah! The Packers really kicked the Bears' butts!
Now I've gone off on a tangent, and I beg your pardon.
