"Wonderland"-*I* feel dirty after watching that movie
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 12:02 PM by underpants
Good GAWD what a horribly disturbing movie. Not just the murders but the whole lifestyle of everyone involved. I'm not a puritan, by ANY means, so I am not condemning them I just :puke: that movie made my skin crawl.

Great preformances in it. If I hadn't read Dylan McDermott's name in the beginning credits it probably would have taken me a while to figure out who it was (his voice would have tipped me off first). Val Kilmer did a fantastic job.

They should show that as an anti-drug movie in schools regardless of how it ended (the recap at the end). Disturbing.

1. I agree 100% with you.
It's the kind of movie that would have been disturbing if it weren't true. The fact that it actually happened is what makes your skin crawl.

3. 1981
Yeah back in the day.

The murders took place July 1, 1981. The whole movie takes place in the few day surrounding it.

15. Holy crap! There's a neighbor
who lived across the street from him at the time.

18. "Life on Wonderland was wonderful back then.
Every neighbor was a character, most every night an adventure. I figure it was so good I'd be dead if I had stayed... Sigh."

Ummm, OK. :eyes:

20. They were all freaking scary!
I'm not sure if the widow is just trying to peddle her wares of really disturbed. I really hope she's marketing.

6. Only recent movie that comes close is "Auto Focus"
...Greg Kinnear and Willem Dafoe in the Bob Crane story.

Maybe even a little scarier than "Wonderland" because Crane had talent, and a family man, and something just short-circuited in him. He had the dark side that we all have and he just bought a ticket and rode that bus right into the wall.

John Holmes' talent was essentially between his knees, and I can't recall anyone ever saying a nice thing about him (except a few of his "starlets." When he knew he was dying he asked the ex-wife to look in the casket before it was sealed and verify they had buried "all" of him. He didn't want his "talent" to end up in someone's trophy case.

BLEH.

8. I haven't seen that one
Having grown up watching Hogan's Heros I am not sure I want to. I know most of the story (from E! ) and it was really creepy.

Wonderland was way worse than "Crush" -I think it was called staring Jason Patrick- the last movie (oddly a drug movie) that had an effect like this.

13. For me "Auto Focus" was sadder rather than scarier
I don't know why for sure. I guess it was because of his family.

What really got to me on that one was how he went from a person with a slight fetish to porn-obsessed after meeting John Carpenter. From then on the downhill spiral was in motion. He lost it all.

I kept wondering if he would have completely lost it like he did, if he'd not met Carpenter.

10. It's very hard to watch at times.
Like you said, these people weren't saints, to put it mildly.

Very good performances all around. Particularly Val Kilmer and Dylan McDermott.

11. The DVD includes
the actual police crime scene video from 1981. While the bodies were still in the house. Talk about creepy...I couldn't sleep.

14. This is one of those "only watch once" movies...
I am glad that I saw it - really powerful. But I won't watch it again.

16. I think you may find "The Woodsman" the same way
Just saw it last night, and it is powerful, creepy, heartbreaking, and challenging. Kevin Bacon is a brave man. Still, I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

was hoping to get to it this weekend, but will likely catch it next week. Sounds like it is worth at least one viewing.
