I got a check for $0.03 yesterday! |
|
A company I worked for over five years gave me stock options every single year - options that got blacked out the second they went above water. I left the company so I had to exercise them - five entire years worth. Charles Schwab just sent me a check for the liquidation of everything I was allowed to exercise, minus their fees, and my take was...
Wait for it...
THREE CENTS!
Here's my plan: I'm going to cash this check and have my girlfriend take pictures to record the event - shots of me cashing the check, shots of me tossing the three pennies in the air in a state of total exhuberance. Then I'll buy a newspaper and get a picture of me holding it in the air triumphantly. Maybe a shot of me and my girlfriend kissing while holding the newspaper together. Then I'll send these pictures along with heartfelt thank-you cards to both the company I worked for and the stock company, telling them how grateful I am for their generous gifts, and how due to their generosity I was finally able to buy that newspaper I've been saving for since I was a child.
Whaddaya think?

3. Newspapers cost three cents? |
|
I don't think you can get anything for under ten cents...You might be able to get a piece of bubble gum for 5 cents, but that may have been ten years ago.

That why I needed this windfall to get it. I've been saving for almost 20 years now. :)

4. quit complaining, that's $0.03 more than i ever got |
|
and i've seen many stock options from small companies, even invested my own savings, and so far have yet to see a single cent.
my current company is certainly looking promisings, but then again, they all did at one point or another....
so here's some sage advise:
DON'T SPEND IT ALL IN ONE PLACE!

5. Great idea. Do you think you could get it circulated |
|
at work? Everyone there should know what lies ahead. After 45 years of working for the company, they'll be able to cash checks for 27 cents, not adjusted for inflation, of course. That might be enough to buy them a piece of gum.

Hell, maybe I should make a website. Give a full record of everything I do with my three cents. Maybe it'll serve as an inspiration to others - proof that hard work DOES get rewarded.

7. You should use the 3 cents to buy |
|
3 cents worth of electricity. Just enough to power your computer long enough to put both companies' Presidents on every porn home mailing list out there. Sign 'em up for discreetly packaged offers...

As a reminder of what the ownership society actually means.
What can you buy for $0.03? Well, your $0.02, plus change!

Great tagline for a website! "Most people only have their two cents! But hard work has paid off, and now I have THREE!"
