I just got scammed by a Girl Scout |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 12:59 PM by Droopy
She knocked on the door and the first thing out of her mouth when I answered was, "Are you the Kerry guy?" I said, yeah. I was one of the few ones on my street to have a Kerry yard sign and a Kerry bumper sticker. She had her little brother tagging along with her. They then went on about how stupid Bush was and how they thought it sucked that Bush won. The girl handed me a form and said, " Want to buy some cookies?" They talked about a talk show that they had seen Kerry on and a joke that he had made.
I handed them back the form. I bought 4 boxes of cookies. For myself.

1. You only got scammed if you noticed a Bush sticker on her backpack |
|
as she walked away :).
Otherwise, you just got sold 4 boxes of cookies by a very wise young girl scout :)

I really don't doubt that she was sincere. She was probably only about 9 or 10. She had a lot to say about politics for a person her age. I think she'll grow up to be a good Democrat.

You just saw proof.
By the way, a Girl Scout cookie girl would be called... well, a Girl Scout.

One good thing is the girl scouts don't discriminate against anyone (unlike the boy scouts) so you can eat your think mints or coconut caramel cookie things (forgot the name) without any guilt.

10. Many Boy Scout troops don't have discriminatory attitudes... |
|
...and it's sad that a wonderful values-based program is stained by a core of Radical RWers who have been given permission to discriminate by national HQ policies.

7. Heh same tactic was used one me.... |
|
When I worked at the boys and girls club in my hometown (A highly Republican hometown called Mathews VA)... Kids if they wanted to try to sell me anything (Girl Scout Cookies, Flowers for a fundraiser for band camp etc).. would always try to appeal to my dislike for the current administration. It actually worked most of the time, and I remember one of the kids even went so far to run up and hug me cause I wasn't a "bushie" (She was selling chocolates.... yes I bought them)

My information tells me that GS cookies aren't supposed to be sold until Jan 15th!
Perhaps its a regional thing?
But congrats - you have the first GS cookie post of the season, I am sure - and sure to followed by many, many more.

How come some people come off as manipulative, while others seem sincere?
Speaking of cookies, my wife had an Oreo craving last night. When we went to the store, we picked up a package, and at the check stand they informed us that the Oreos were buy one get one free, so we picked up another package. We now have two huge packages of Oreos for two people. Way too much sugar.

I do not doubt the sincerity of the girl and her brother. I just found it amusing that they started talking politics while trying to sell me something.

You and I both know that the "man" is watching this site and now there is no doubt that Homeland Security will be notified of this girl's actions. She will now be arrested and charged. She will probably get a dishonorable discharge from the Girl scouts and be thrown into prison. The end of her career is on your hands!

So I guess the Circle T Council is on the early sale schedule this year.
anyway, this kid is a good Democrat's daughter so that is just a bonus.
However, we love GScookies so much that she did not even have to ask; I saw the folder in her hand and waved her over to me.
Gooey caramel thingies are called different things in different areas. Over here they are Caramel Delights. In Kentucky they are called Samoas.
I got 3 boxes each of: Peanut Butter Patties (the chocolate covered one, not the sandwich one), Thin Mints, Shortbreads, Lemon Sandwich, and Caramel Delights. Which will probably all be gone in a week if my husband is home. One year he bought a whole case of Caramel Delights at a sale table that was in front of the Garden Center near here.
