Poll question: Favorite Weird Al song?
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 11:37 PM by populistmom
Yes, yes, I know Weird Al is lame, a geek, but sometimes I can't get those songs out of my head especially one of them.

7. Kick for Amish Paradise
better than the original!

Oh yeah, the backwards filmed scene at the end of the video is classic.

'cause, Amish are like...backwards...n'stuff.
Just trust me on this, ok?

2. Other: Harvey
The short "Harvey the Wonder Hampster", just b/c I adore rodents.

I would also vote "Cavity Search".

The one about Barney dying in the end, sung to the tune of the 1994 one-hit-wonder "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by the Crash test Dummies. It was AWESOME.

9. "one more minute" or "dare to be stupid"
"dare to be stupid" doesn't have the greatest lyrics, but it is SUCH a good style-ripoff of devo, it deserve major kudos.

"one more minute" is just a classic 50's ballad, though with wonderfully psychotic lyrics. extra points for "'cause i'm stranded all alone / in the gas station of love / and i have to use the self-service pumps"

11. YES!
How could they leave out One More Minute or Like a Surgeon?

One More Minute
by Al Yankovic

Well I heard that you're leavin.'
Gonna leave me far behind.
'Cause you found a brand new lover,
You decided that I'm not your kind .

So I pulled your name out of my Rolodex,
And I tore all your pictures in two,
And I burned down the malt shop where we used to go
Just because it reminds me of you.

That's right, you ain't gonna see me cryin.'
I'm glad that you found somebody new.
'Cause I'd rather spend eternity eating shards of broken glass
Than spend one more minute with you.

I guess I might seem kinda bitter,
You got me feeling down in the dumps,
'Cause I'm stranded all alone in the gas station of love
And I have to use the self-service pumps.

Oh, so honey, let me help you with that suitcase.
You ain't gonna break my heart in two.
'Cause I'd rather get a hundred thousand paper cuts on my face
Than spend one more minute with you.

I'd rather rip out my intestines with a fork
Than watch you going out with other men.
I'd rather slam my fingers in a door
Again and again and again and again and again.

Oh, can't you see what I'm tryin' to say, Darlin'...

I'd rather have my blood sucked out by leeches,
Shove an icepick under a toenail or two,
I'd rather clean out all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue
Than spend one more minute with you.

Yes, I'd rather jump naked on a huge pile of thumbtacks,
Or stick my nostrils together with crazy glue,
I'd rather dive into a swimming pool filled with double-edged razor blades
Than spend one more minute with you.

I'd rather rip my heart out of my ribcage with my bare hands
and then throw it on the floor and stomp on it 'till I die
Than spend one more minute with you.

One of the greatest post-breakup songs ever...particularly if you're the one who's just been "dumped" for someone else.

12. Everything You Know Is Wrong
I was driving on the freeway in the fast lane
With a rabid wolverine in my underwear
When suddenly a guy behind me in the back seat
Popped right up and cupped his hands across my eyes

I guessed, "Is it Uncle Frank or Cousin Louie?"
"Is it Bob or Joe or Walter?"
"Could it be Bill or Jim or Ed or Bernie or Steve?"
I probably would have kept on guessing
But about that time we crashed into the truck

And as I'm laying bleeding there on the asphalt
Finally I recognize the face of my hibachi dealer
Who takes off his prosthetic lips and tells me

Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you thought was just so
Important doesn't matter

Everything you know is wrong
Just forget the words and sing along
All you need to understand is
Everything you know is wrong

I was walkin' to the kitchen for some Golden Grahams
When I accidentally stepped into an alternate dimension
And soon I was abducted by some aliens from space
Who kinda looked like Jamie Farr

They sucked out my internal organs
And they took some polaroids
And said I was a darn good sport
And as a way of saying thank you
They offered to transport me back to
Any point in history that I would care to go

And so I had them send me back to last Thursday night
So I could pay my phone bill on time
Just then the floating disembodied head of
Colonel Sanders started yelling

Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you thought was just so
Important doesn't matter

Everything you know is wrong
Just forget the words and sing along
All you need to understand is
Everything you know is wrong

I was just about to mail a letter to my evil twin
When I got a nasty papercut
And, well, to make a long story short
It got infected and I died

So now I'm up in heaven with St. Peter
By the pearly gates
And it's obvious he doesn't like
The Nehru jacket that I'm wearing
He tells me that they've got a dress code

Well, he lets me into heaven anyway
But I get the room next to the noisy ice machine
For all eternity
And every day he runs by screaming

Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you used to think was so important
Doesn't really matter anymore
Because the simple fact remains that

Everything you know is wrong
Just forget the words and sing along
All you need to understand is
Everything you know is wrong
Everything you know is wrong

16. Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is frightening in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone shut the fence off in the rain
I admit it's kinda eerie
But this proves my chaos theory
And I don't think I'll be coming back again... oh no!

18. Just about anything from Running With Scissors
I'm particularly fond of Albuquerque but the rest of the album rocks too. Pretty fly for a Rabbi and It's All About the Pentiums both always make me snort. And I love The Saga Begins - the send up of American Pie about Star Wars. But Albuquerque is still the best.

My favorite bit:
I ran out into the street with these flesh-eating weasels all over my
face, wavin' my arms all around and just runnin', runnin', runnin' likea constipated wiener dog. And as luck would have it, that's exactly when I ran into the girl of my dreams. Her name was Zelda. She was a caligraphy enthusiast, with a slight overbite, and hair the color of strained peaches. I'll never forget the very first thing she said to me. She said, "Hey, you've got weasels on your face."

That's when I knew it was true love. We were inseparable after that.
Aw, we ate together, we bathed together, we even shared the same piece
of mint-flavored dental floss. The world was our burrito. So we got
married, and we bought us a house and had two beautiful children,
Nathaniel and Superfly. Oh we were so very, very, very happy, oh yeah.
But then, one fateful night, Zelda said to me, she said, "Sweetie
pumpkin? Do you wanna join the Columbia Record Club?" I said, "Woah!
Hold on now, baby! I'm just not ready for that kind of a commitment!"

So we broke up, and I never saw her again
but that's just the way things go

In Albuquerque!

19. It's a tie between "Dare to Be Stupid" and "One More Minute."
Yes, I realize it's odd to select Al originals over the parodies, especially when the parodies are such a hoot. But a month doesn't go by when I don't think of this line from "One More Minute":

"I'd rather clean all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue than spend one more minute with you."

23. I love Rocky Road
because whenever I go to an ice cream parlor and I see that flavor, the song instantly goes through my head. Now that's talent ;-) !

BTW, I've actually seen him perform live. It's not like I went because I was a huge fan or anything, I got offered free front row seats so wtf  . He was very entertaining.
