Can't we all just get along? |
|
Before I showered I read a really "inappropriate" response from a fellow DUer, accusing another of "hogging" Kef's memory. I meant to respond to it, but now its gone.
In my opinion, no amount of tribute threads to Kef can be enough.
He was the heart and soul of DU.
It really is about this person, that person, you and me. It's about all of us. Cause Kef was all of us.

2. agree completely, Catwoman |

For those of us who loved Kef, we can't read enough tributes and memories about him. I hope to read many more here. Each one is a contribution and I'm treasuring all of them as I read them. EVERYONE has the right to contribute as they feel they are able and desire.

4. I agree. Beefing over the way one expresses their grief is silly |
|
We all express grief differently due to various reasons.
Hide thread if you think someone is hogging something. It's that little box with the 'x' in it at the end of the subject line.

I expect grief to cause people to act in irrational or unforeseen ways, but this is the time to PUT ASIDE petty grievances and "ownership" of private memories. Keph was one of the ultimate peacemakers on here. He forgave me more than once during those nasty primary battles, when we both said things to one another we instantly regretted. For his forgiveness, I will love him forever for it. I am glad we all share common fond memories of him.
In a place more divided than ever before, we need the unity his memory brings. We owe his life that much.

According to Skinner, all the in-fighting at DU really bothered Khephra. As such, accusing a fellow DUer of "hogging" his memory isn't the best way to honor the man. :(

Who is complaing about threads containing tributes to Kef?
Gee, I usually expect more out of liberal's. Hmmmm....
You are right cat woman, This person should have a million threads! He should be honored as a wonderful human being!
Anybody who dosen't believe in that, needs to have their liberal badges examined.

Deep emotion too often trumps our rational side.
If it didn't, the extremist right wouldn't have a base.

10. Well, you know Polly and I love you, Midori |

And I'm trusting you'll make FUNDAY this year if we have to send you the airline tickets to do it. John Kheph made the party three years ago, so his passing leaves two wounds -- one in the DU community and one here. We'll figure a way to remember him -- but we'll never replace him. Even my Republican friends are missing him today.

11. Kef was the very best we can be. |
|
Which is exactly why there cannot be enough tributes shared.
It's an old saw to say "Everyone turns into a good guy when they're gone." But Kef was the good guy in life. It's why this is all so overwhelming.
If there is someway to have a small corner on the front page of DU as a personal and permanant tribute of appreciation to Scott, I wonder if that would be appropriate?
At this time, it certainly feels proper.

It really is about all of us.
And like Zomby said downthread, no two people grieve the same, and it isn't for anyone else to decide what is or isn't apprporiate as long as what's expressed is sincere and by doing so doesn't hurt anyone else in the process.
I prefer to think that each of us is maybe a little better for this space we have created here for ourselves and the people we have met along the way.
