Am I the only one here (who isn't a disruptor) |
|
who didn't really like Bowling for Columbine?
I liked it on the whole, but not that much. It had some good stuff in there, but seemed really scattered. I mean, he poses the question at the beginning of the documentary (which I thought to be the subject of the work), "Are we a nation of gun nuts, or just nuts?"
He examines various things on that subject, but the entire time he's going off on, "is it fair to make a single mother work this long to stay on welfare," and the "can we get K-Mart to stop selling stuff," really hurt the whole process in my eyes.
His focus just wandered, and it really took away from the subject of the documentary.

1. Depends on how you define "like" |
|
My initial reaction was somewhat critical of the style and slapdash aspect, and also it seemed egotistical in a way that wasn't nearly as endearing and onpoint as the same gonzo editorial style in Roger and Me. However, in the overall scheme of things, Bowling for Columbine continues to resonate with me. I think that's a testament to its thematic coherence.

2. scattered approach for short attention spans |
|
I'd always assumed that Mike Moore chose a scattered (for want of a better word) approach to keep people interested. He sets out to gain an audience that doesn't neccesarily normally watch documentaries, by making them in a magaziney type format it is more accesible to people who'd find a more traditional approach dull

3. I don't like it either. |
|
Simply because Moore uses too many half-truths, staged "events," and outright lies.
We like to jump all over Ann Coulter, when she pulls shit like this.
But Moore gets a free ride?

4. I'm not a big fan of Moore............... |
|
he's raised some good points, but in the end I think he does more harm than good. I think he has an "I" problem as well. He's a little over the top at times and thinks himself to be a far greater force than is actual. Jusy my opinion, I know many people think of him as a savior and they have every right to believe that.
