3. I don't.
I just don't. There are Neil Diamond songs I like. This isn't one of them.

4. Awww, c'mon.
You don't listen to Neil for nuance.

It's flag-waving at its most pure and innocent. Try comparing it to the audio turds by Toby Keith & Darryl Worley, then get back to me.

5. It was written and sung in a different time
and FOR a different time.

Neil Diamond has always been one of my absolute favorite singer/writers. I was just listening to "Hot August Night" last night, in fact!

10. Actually I did when it came out

12. So THAT'S why you go around picking fights with the guys!
NO MUSICAL TASTE! Some kind of defense mechanism, eh? A cover-up? An inability to admit there's something you can't do?

"I'll get 'em all into a cage match and whip out my ball bat."

NOW I see.

11. Not ashamed to admit he /still/ enjoys Neil Diamond
L.A.'s fine, the sun shines most the time
and the feelin' is lay back...
Palm trees grow, the rents are low, but you know I keep thinking 'bout
making my way back...
Well I'm New York City born and raised,
but nowadays I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home,
New York's home, but it ain't mine no more....

Amazing I still remember those lyrics after not having heard them for two decades.

17. Thank You!
I do love me some Neil Diamond. Not too long ago I was chomping at the bit to get "The Essential Neil Diamond." The minute it came out, I had to have it. But that's me ;)

15. Nope. never cared for that one.
Liked some of Neil's older stuff though. Pretty much everything he put out on the "UNI" label was good, but after that he went downhill. Same with Elton John, for that matter. Who would have though a brightly colored record label would have made so much difference?
