5. I just took a job with the Home Office
administering and developing the police DNA database. Although I have some privacy qualms about it, someone close to me pointed out that at least this way I'd be able to keep an eye on how it's used.

I say "just", but in fact it was August and the security clearance is still dragging on. Gah. Clearly my involvement in subversive discussion boards has raised some red flags.

6. My thoughts too
I'm no fan of the planned database, or the I.D. cards to go with it; but if we avoid these position then they'll be filled with authoritarians who couldn't care less about jumping all over civil liberties.

7. Did anyone notice the new allegiance standards?
In some of the job announcements, eligibility was described in part as "applicants who are US citizens and whose allegiance to the United States is not in doubt!"
