Survey: Women Over 40 Seek Younger Dates
NEW YORK - Demi Moore is not alone. Close to a third of unmarried American woman in their 40s through 60s who date are going out with younger men, according to one of the most sweeping surveys ever conducted on the dating habits and sex lives of mid-life singles.

Sex on a first date? Only 2 percent of single women in the age group approved, while 20 percent of the men were amenable. Frequency of sex? Sixty percent of the women and 45 percent of the men said they hadn't had any in the past six months.

The survey, sampling the views of 1,407 men and 2,094 women aged 40 to 69, is being released Monday in the new edition of AARP The Magazine, the flagship publication of the nation's biggest advocacy group for Americans over 50.

....

According to the survey, 60 percent of singles aged 40-69 are women, a majority of them divorced. Forty-two percent of the men and 24 percent of the women had never been married.

Among the hundreds of findings in the survey, Slon said he was most surprised by the large portion of women who reported dating younger men — a trend recently glamorized by 40-year-old Demi Moore's romance with actor Ashton Kutcher, 15 years her junior.

"There seems to be no stigma now for dating men a few years younger," Slon said. "Twenty years ago, women didn't have the jobs. Today they have the jobs, they have the money, they can call the shots."

1. I was under 40 at the time,
but I married a man five years younger. Men my own age were (perhaps still are) less accepting of the entire women's movement and the notion that women really are men's intellectual and psychological in all other ways equal.

If I'm back on the market again, I'd again hope to date or marry a younger man.

2. it's because all the men our age are dating 20 year olds

Been there done that, wouldn't do it again. Unless I meet the the right man who is at least my age to 10 years older, I will spend the rest of my life alone and be just fine with it. I was married to a man one year younger... not a big deal for age difference. But then I "dated" and briefly lived with someone 17 years younger. His idea of romance was fighting and making up, jealousy and possesiveness. I told him he needed to find a young woman who would appreciate him and have his children. I just couldn't go back to that point in my emotional development.

10. Dating younger women, married or....
.... divorced and living the "never again" life. A woman who waits to get married doesn't get married, because there's no one worthy out there who is also willing to take the plunge.

9. When I was single I never dated younger men.
Now that I'm an old married fart, I can't say that I'd rule it out if for some unfathomable reason I was ever on the dating scene again.

I will admit, however, that it'd be strange to be with anyone who came of age significantly later than I did. I have to wonder if they'd get my jokes or references to older cultural icons. What would it be like, I wonder, to be with anyone who didn't experience dating before AIDS or the same music scene?

17. I never dated younger women....
Oh, Ok there was that 30-something Alcoholic when I was 40....What a disaster....
It could be summed up, surprisingly, by an humour article I read once about Bestiality...

"Go for older cows instead of calves. They're like middle-aged women, less vindictive and less full-of-shit..."

I may have to start chasing the younger ones, unless I can find some older women who aren't "finished with THAT Foolishness" yet....:-(

18. Out of curiosity, how old are you?
I'm 43 and I always had the opinion that you are somewhere close to me in age...

Rest assured, dear, not all of us older women are "thru with that foolishness." I expect to be thru the day after I die! :)

19. Good for them!
I think there are 2 main reasons why older people (men and women) date younger ones:

1. There is nobody in your age group around you.
This is often the most cirtical issue. Most of the ones that I tend to look at as possible partners are either married or divorced, but without any interest in a relationship.

2. Younger women (in my case) tends to be more, hmmm how can I put this in a non-offensive way..., open and attractive.
I do not mean attractive in a look kind of way, but more in the way they behave. Looks are only skin-deep anyway.

I wouldn't mind meeting a nice woman in her early forties for a long term relationship, but the truth is that they are few and far apart. At least they are not very visible and that may be the whole problem.

There are more young women (and men) who are single and available in their 20's and 30's than in their 40's.
