1. Hockey announcers have to be the best
to keep up with all the action and keep it clear.
(not all, but the best in hockey have to be at the top of all sports)

5. The Most Impressive are RADIO Play-by-Play Guys Covering Hockey
the speed at which the game moves makes it extraordinarily difficult to create a picture of the action in the viewers mind without falling behind. It's complicated by the fact that the helmeted and padded players tend to look alike and continually jump on and off the ice.

The Washington Capitals used to have a guy named Ron Weber who was an incredible radio announcer. He would even pepper the play-by-play with statistics, catchy figures, and all sorts of goodies.

2. Henry Blofeld
B.B.C. Radio4 Test Match Special - the true sound of summer.

Cricket test matches go on for 5 days, and so the broadcasters have to fill in vast amounts of time. Bloers provides gentle conversation in which the sport takes second place. The absolute epitome of England, and of cricket.

8. Yes, considering he has a voice for writing.
The fact that he got into broadcasting is a fluke.

10. Wayne Larravee (sp) Packer's football guy
He used to be the Bears and he was stolen. Great at basketball also.

He does a lot of Big Ten football for TV. Always informed and informative, never bigger than the game. Makes the exciting games exciting while allowing his color commentator to give expert insight.

I don't know if announcers get in the football Hall of Fame, but he should go in.

12. Some love for Pat Hughes - Cubs play-by-play
Really carries Ron Santo (Ron can't see so good anymore). I love their call because, well, it gives me the warm fuzzies because Pat and Ron really seem to like each other. Pat is a real pro.
