6. There was a TV show made of this - "The Oblongs"

I think it was on the WB originally, but it eventually ended up on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

The cartoon was absolutely hilarious. The dad was voiced by Will Farrell.

There were fewer than 20 original episodes, and I don't think there are any plans to add more (although I think the folks at Adult Swim ought to consider it)

I adore Jean Smart's character!
