All right - who voted for Vick??? |
|
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1963651 The Indianapolis Colts' star quarterback, who surpassed Dan Marino and Steve Young with his passing prowess in 2004, earned all but one of 48 votes from a national panel of sports writers and broadcasters who cover pro football. Manning tied with Steve McNair for the award last season, but this time only Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick drew a vote.

2. Well one thing about Vick |
|
His team isn't very good without him, so a case could be made for him to be the MVP. Manning certainly isn't a wrong choice, but the Falcons really aren't very good without Vick. They lost in the next to the last game of the season when he sat out, and they were bad in 2003 when he was hurt for the majority of the year. So is he more valuable than Manning? Its doubtful that the Colts would be as awesome as they are without him, but I bet they would be at least a .500 team.

3. I don't particularly like Manning. |
|
He pretends not to care about stats, but how many touchdown passes of 5 yards or less did he throw this year? Edggerin James should have had most, if not all, of those scores, but Peyton wanted his record.

5. I'm not sure that's relevent. |
|
What is the average percentage of all QB's Td passes under 5 yards? Then compare the 2.
Note: I have no idea how they compare, so go ahead and research it before stating such things.

8. Puhleeze friend, have you taken a serious look at the Colts lineup? |
|
They are a team that is built to pass early and often. Let's see hear, at wide receiver they have Harrison, a prime time, not mouthy stud receiver(though he is getting to be a bit over the hill), Reggie Wayne, the young up and coming star speedster, Brandon Stokely who dominates in the slot. At tight end, they've got the ageless Marcus Pollard and the ever catching blocking tight end Dallas Clark. At RB they've got the catching threats of Edgerinn James, Dominic Rhodes, and James Mungro. There isn't a run first person in any of the skill position period. Why should we be suprised that they pass so much? It isn't selfishness on Manning's part, it's the way their offense has been built. They were a pass first team for the past three, four years, this year they just excelled at what they were always quite good at.
If you go back and look at Marino's record year, you'll see that his Miami team was built the same way, a pass first team that excelled one year, allowing him to capture the record. Same thing will happen in a future year when Manning's record is broken.
