Aren't they conforming to their own subgroup?
Most of us are "conformists" in one way or another, aren't we?

They're just conforming to the mainstream idea of non-conformity.
I've always said that if high school kids want to truly be different, they should wear a shirt and tie all the time.

I know a Goth teen. Just like the kids he labels "preps," he only buys brand name clothes that all the other goth kids wear, listens to the same music they listen too, talks about the same morose crap they talk about, and even calls himself a vampire, like many of them do.
It's conformist--it just conforms to another set of "rules" outside the "prep" culture.

a group of bankers, yeah. But in order to be a goth there are still acceptable types of dress and mudic one must adhere to.

That is, they broke with MSC and are as conforming with the alternative culture they have joined as most people are with MSC.

I cant wait till they start getting debeautification implants! lol... just joking... really.
I think when your young and creative you just get a bit pissed off at the schlock everyone is telling/selling you. Goths may all look sorta the same but whenthey mean different they usually mean they aint listening/buying the same ol' shit that everyone else is.
At least thats my hope for them...

10. No. Wearing jeans and a T-shirt to an office |

where everyone else is wearing ties and Dockers is non-conformist. I've managed to do that everywhere I've worked. Of course I'm always the resident nerd, so they tend to put up with it and accept me into their "nice pants" society.
IMO it's very conformist to like Insane Clown Posse. It's been done before, they were called "Ziggy Stardust" and "KISS".
