Are you tired of winter yet? |
|
Every year, I get tired of winter a little earlier. I used to get tired of it in February. I've had (winter) cabin fever for about a week now. It has nothing to do with how much time I spend at home; it's how much time I spend indoors ANYWHERE I used to try to adapt and fool myself into liking winter. Now, I just figure it's a lousy fact of life and I might as well complain about it constantly. (It seems to work for other people). Is anybody else sick of it yet?

It only lasted a few days in December just like the past few years. Nothing to get tired of really. The birds are pairing up and singing in the trees, and we're ready to rumble.
The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists and other subversives. We intend to clean them out, even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country. --John Mitchell, US Attorney General 1969-72

Perhaps I would be if I was actually experiencing some cold weather, though I don't know since I love the cold as long as I have enough warm stuff on. Where I live (southeast Texas) it's currently in the seventies, though! We had some nice cold around Christmas (actually got into the twenties; the coldest it ever gets around here) but has since gotten much warmer than I like it. I plan to eventually move somewhere where there are actually true winters!

It would definitely take some getting used to, though. Last January, my brother-in-law and I went up to New Hampshire for a week to help out John Kerry in the primary. The area we were in (Claremont) was experiencing seventy-four year record lows; I think it got into the -30's during the middle of the night one night! I liked it, though the weather does definitely start getting to you after a while... I'd stand in front of a polling place for an hour or so at a time holding Kerry signs and would feel like a block of ice by the end of the hour- especially my hands, even with gloves on!

Here in SE Wisconsin by mid February the threat of daily highs below zero F is usually past.
The worst is soon to be over, I wish I could say the same about W's second term.

9. Here in SW PA, we have usually had |

at least three feet of snow by now, used about 500 gallons of fuel oil, and not seen the ground for a month. It isn't good for the ski areas nearby, but we are enjoying this completely unusual mildness so far.
We will get ours, as it is forecast to not go above 25F for two weeks starting Friday. Yesterday, I walked nine holes of golf for the third time this month, at our local ski resort golf course.
I am a builder, and it has been good to work this much, as well.

Over the past month we've had a lot of days with temps in the 50s and 60s in Maryland. Not that many really cold days. We usually get some cold and snow in february, though.
I don't mind the cold, but I dread ice storms, heavy snow, and high winds.

living in Florida for three years. This winter has been very warm even for Florida. Low 80's and hig 70's every day for a long time now. I hate living here, and I would rather deal with winter and live in a nice New England town.
Plus, next winter will be my son's first real winter. He'll be 3 by then and old enough to enjoy playing outside in the snow. I used to love playing in the snow as a kid. I think it will be fun to play outside with my son in the snow too.

Here in Austin, we're in the mid 70's today. The week after Christmas felt like September. We are supposed to get a bit of a front later this week that will take it back down to the 30s overnight.
I used to hate the summer time and couldn't wait for winter. Now I'm with you, I can't stand it. I find that as I get older, I can't handle the cold anymore. I never seem to get warm. I've joked with my husband that if it becomes neccessary to leave the country, I'm gonna have to head to Mexico instead of Canada.

From there it has nowhere to go but up, more daylight, warmer temps. This winteer has been so dark, not as cold as past winters, but, we've had pipes freeze that I thought I had fixed last spring. It's the damn ice I don't like, we can deal with snow, but there is more ice forecast for this week.

And I've spent 2 weeks of it in a very warm tropical locale. However, today it's a whopping 18 degrees. The snow from last week hasn't even begun to melt. I haven't seen the sun since last week, when it was below zero and windy as all hell.
Today I broke down and bought a hella expensive parking permit because I'm sick of parking in a snow bank and then walking 5-6 blocks on sidewalks that are solid ice. Screw winter.

34. Chicago Winter Storm Watch Through Wednesday... |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 04:23 PM by sabra
... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from this evening to Wednesday morning...
The Winter Storm Watch is for that part of north central and northeast Illinois... and northwest Indiana along and north of the Kankakee and Illinois rivers. Significant accumulations of ice from freezing rain are likely beginning after 9 PM tonight and continuing until Wednesday morning.
A mix of winter weather is expected to overspread the watch area this evening. It will start as some lighter snow and sleet... then change to all or mostly freezing rain overnight tonight and early Tuesday morning. The freezing rain is likely to continue through the day Tuesday and through Tuesday night.
FUN!!!

here in Pittsburgh since it was really cold on X-mas Eve. So it isn't really winter. I think I would rather have cold and snowy than this grey rainy stuff. But then I haven't had to use the shovels much so far, so I guess I shouldn't complain.
