From a google search: ape index / 'eIp 'Indeks / n. The result of subtracting a person's height from their span, usually expressed in inches. For example, a person five feet ten inches tall with a fingertip-to-fingertip span of six feet would have an ape index of plus two inches.
Mine, at a height of 5'11", is +4 inches, which means I basically have the arms of a 6'3" person. I am not sure how this is physically useful, although it appears to have some advantage in rock climbing and in reaching things off of shelves.
Can anyone either shed some light on this or post theirs?

I'm 5'11" and I just tried to measure with a tape measure and got the same result on the wingspan. Am I an ape?
