Our Legal System at Work(or bobbobbins gets screwed by the man)
Seeing the post about the anti-seatbelt guy getting killed reminded me of what happened to me last thursday.

I had to go to court for 3 charges...driving with an expired inspection sticker, not updating the address on my drivers license and not wearing a seat belt.

The first two i was guilty as sin of, and it was pure laziness...the kicker was, i had my seatbelt on the whole time...cop said when he pulled me over it looked like my seatbelt wasn't on.

Well i get to court, and the judge asks me if i updated my registration and license...i said yes, and he dropped both charges...I then plead not guilty to wearing the seatbelt...and told him that i had it on, and that the cop must have been mistaken.

The cop told a bold faced lie and said that he saw me putting it on as he approached.

So this is our system at work...the two things i was guilty of get thrown out, the one i was innocent of, i am found guilty.

1. That's how the ball bounces, unfortunately.
Even if it were the Pope's word against the cop's, without a witness, the Pope would be found guilty in traffic court.

2. i appealed it...im going to bring in pictures of my back window
i have a convertable with a really small back window that makes it impossible to see the driver when approaching. I think that should be worth some cred.

4. Not always -- sometimes even the judge knows the cops are lying

I got pulled over -- and I WAS NOT speeding. I was going about 5 miles under the speed limit. The cop thought I was an easy mark -- he had a quota to fill and it was the end of his shift -- because of traffic NO ONE was speeding.

First of all the from 15 to 25% of radar tickets are given in error -- cops often don't know how to operate the things.

Anyway what we learned is to back up your testimony with photos, pictures and maps -- and expect the cop to lie -- that what they do.

It is worth it to fight the ticket -- because your insurance will be raised -- even though the SOB cop was lying.

What I found from a organization that helps drivers fight tickets -- cops in many areas do have quotas -- and traffic tickets are a major source of income that isn't listed -- it is off book income for some judicial districts.

If we all fought the speed ticket -- this would be a money loser for counties and and cops. This would tie up the court system.

But I was really surprised that the radar tickets is such a big money raiser for local governments. We are being ripped off -- and often the insurance companies are in on the scam -- they donate radar guns to cop departments. The idiot cop acted like the number on his radar gun was from god and could not possibly be wrong -- but I KNEW that he was lying.

Go the court over prepared -- and there is a good chance you will win.

Go to the above website -- and order their kit -- it will help you appeal.

Oh I forgot to add -- I won! We caught the cop in several lies (we -- my husband and I) the case was thrown out. I also got an excellent education about radar guns and the major money grabbing scam going on throughout the US.
