Am I the only person on DU who likes to drive fast?
Fast cars, self-tuning and mods, fuzz busters, *concept* cars fer cry-yi!: all of these things have been attacked here in the Lounge in the past few weeks or so. Am I the only person here who likes to take twisty roads swiftly and speed on the straights?

4. I like to but I rarely do it
I have too much to lose by getting in a wreck, or even a bad traffic ticket.

Love the twisties - I love having a car with independent front and rear axles.

6. Yer not alone.
I love tight, twisting roads. The selfish side of my concerns regarding Peak Oil is that gas might (will) get so pricey I won't be able to enjoy driving anymore.

10. Oooh - It's like we're having a coming-out party
Not that I'm advocating the reckless endangerment of others - I like speeding on the track more than down 280. And it's important to be reminded that cars can get ridiculously extreme; I just feel like sometimes we're getting scolded for liking speed...

11. It is fun, but I don't do it.
I don't know if it was getting older, or having kids, but I'm not the lead foot I used to be. I never really was all that bad. I've only ever had one speeding ticket in my whole life. But, if the law and the danger factor weren't there, I'd be a speed demon. Speed is fun.

25. same here...
used to LOVE to go fast, I'd scream down I-15 from Redlands to Escondido on the way to San Diego going 90+ (and never got a ticket); I was one of the worst aggressive drivers on the LA freeways, too. But then I moved to NYC, didn't have a car for 2 years and by the time I bought another one I'd gotten married and had bought a new car I didn't want totaled and just stopped driving too fast.

Well, I stopped driving fast on all roads except freeways. And I was driving in northern Virginia by then, and no one knew how to speed safely... it seemed like SoCalifornians could cope with traffic and speed, but NoVirginians couldn't.

And I was also living on a mountain - very twisty 20 miles up to my house - and I saw too many dead animals and too many asshats off the side of the mountain from bad, fast driving. Kinda cured me, at least of the twisty roads.

Sad thing is, it is a station wagon. Truly hard to look cool driving fast in a wagon.

14. Make your pre-arrangements, and pre-pay your funeral.
It's the least you could do, to spare your family the trauma, after you wind up killing yourself behind the wheel...

22. It's called the track
Living where I do, it's not too hard to schedule time (though paying can be the tough part). I have no problems with trimming my speed where there are other people...

my dad was nearly killed when he hit a herd of deer after doing 85 on a small country road last year. If you have that much of a need for speed, ride a rollercoaster. Don't endanger the rest of us, please.

30. My first car was a 1973 Honda Civic that I fixed up
Beefed up the suspension, put on big wheels and tires, good shocks, Weber carb, headers, and a 2-inch exhaust system.

That car loved the twisties too, until it got clobbered by a Ford from behind.

33. I like to, but don't
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 09:26 PM by last_texas_dem
A few years back I got a speeding ticket, then was pulled over less than two months later and given a warning. I found out that had they decided to give me a ticket that second time and had checked out my information I would have been arrested because some paperwork hadn't been received by the county courthouse! To go to jail over something like that would have been ridiculous, plus I consider the safety reasons and whatnot and have since gotten where I rarely ever go more than five over the speed limit.

I did enjoy speeding a lot, taking curves quickly, pealing out, etc., but I did it quite a bit the first couple of years I learned to drive so got a good deal of that out of my system.
